DTC read P0793 keeps coming back

Hi,

My 2009 xB started to have this problem about 4 days ago. There's been a delay in gear shifting from 2nd to 3rd. VSC Off and check engine lights are on. Scanner gives DTC code P0793 (Intermediate Shaft Speed Sensor A Circuit No Signal) 1/1.
I replaced the automatic speed sensor (under air filter housing) with this one [ame]http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003SZ3JC0/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1[/ame]
During replacement I disconnected the battery.
After installation, the VSC Off and check engine lights were off. I drove it to try. The symptoms (shifting delay) came back again for a while; VSC OFF and check engine lights were on again). I drove for a couple of miles and stopped to erase the code using scanner. I drove it again and the symptoms were almost 100% gone, but the VSC OFF and CEL lights were on again; this time two same codes appears: P0793 and P0793 PD (1/2 and 2/2). I said almost 100% gone, because somehow I felt it didn't shift very smoothly. But it could be just me.

A person who owns 2006 Toyota Sienna said that his Sienna had two speed sensors.

I was wondering if 2009 xB has 2 automatic speed sensors too. If so where's the other one located?

Thank you for your help.

Hi,

It's just the automatic speed sensor(s) needed to be replaced. Apparently, prior to post I replaced the wrong one. I wasn't sure that there were 2 of them. So I only replaced the one I knew. That's why even after replacing, it still did not solve the problem. After the other also one got replaced (by a mechanic), the problem's solved. I did not try to replacing the first one with the old one again.

I just used this one: Amazon.com: Autel MaxiScan MS300 CAN Diagnostic Scan Tool for OBDII Vehicles: Automotive

So in my case the scanner has given me an accurate reading.

I don't think I had a problem with shifting into 4th gear. Mostly from 2nd to third. But I guess, if it's true that the speed sensor(s) is not working properly, then it could affect shifting in any gear.

Thank you very much for your response.

Regards,

Eddy
