The bottom bracket probably rusted through like mine did. I removed the top two bolts and the heat shield fell off. The bottom bracket was snapped in half. Mine is also a 2005. I'm now running without the heat shield and so far so good. I still would prefer to have it but things happen.

 

If you or anyone needs a head shield, I've got one left over from my engine swap.
