I'm looking for a cold air intake system to hopefully boost torque or horsepower, anything to get my box going a little faster. I don't know much about cars, but if an intake system change doesn't do that, then at least it'll sound cooler :D

So I'm looking on this website and there are two different prices for the same product title, but obviously I'm missing something. One is 60 and one is 230...I cant post links yet, but I think the $60 one is just the pipe, and the other is just a full system? I have no idea really...

What will a cold air intake system do? What else do I need to get this job done? Any help is much appreciated!

FYI I'm looking at a Fujita F5 Air Polished Cold Air Intake System.

without dumping a ton of cash on your box you probably wont notice much at all from simple bolt ons. best bet is to get an intake from a REPUTABLE company that you like the looks of. i have the aem full cold air but i think it looks like spaghetti in my engine bay. to answer your question about price... most REPUTABLE intake systems are gonna be in the $200+ range. there are cheap ones but ive heard lots about check engine lights being activated because of mass airflow sensor placement and leaking.

if you want the looks and sound go for it... but if you mod your intake box and toss in a K&N filter youll be set...

oil change, new set of spark plugs, and add LUCAS upper cylinder lubricant w/fuel injector cleaner and fuel conditioner. also clean the TB per PCH's D.I.Y.

ive had both FUJITA/INJEN
SRI = quicker throttle response and best at low end. less likely to hydrolock. sounds "throaty"

CAI = best at high end. able to switch to a SRI.

I second the SRI. I live in Illinois and the thing that worries me the most is the water from the snow or rain or whatever getting into the intake. So pending on where you live, I would take weather conditions into consideration. I've also heard good things about Injen intakes, the keyword there is "Heard" though.

yah, sri would be the better since it would sit up high-> i have aem cai and ran into some problems under rainy conditions-> ofcourse it didnt help to be missing fender lining but if i had a sri or was running the filter on the upper portion like sakura mentioned i prolly wouldnt have had any issues-> if you must have an intake and want have some piece of mind try checking out afe intakes-> but absolute safest would be a drop in filter like a k&n or as such-> as far as performance goes the best way i would discribe the "power" difference between cai vs stock would like going from 87 to 91 octain, not much of a difference-> however, i have a drop in k&n in the wifes box and what was really noticed was better fuel economy...good luck!

My mechanic said that all and air filter would do is decrease mpg and make the engine work too hard and put more wear and tear on it in the long run. Is this true? I really can't decided wether to spend the money on this since I'm only going to have the xB for two more years.

Hmm. Don't listen to mechanics, unless they actually have similar mods on their own car.

I've been running a CAI or SRI for almost 5 years, it was the first mod I did.
The sound alone was worth it, sounds badass when you get on it.

Where? Nice buy.
I was looking at new filter, $40!
I happened to be browsing on ebay and type in k&n xb and this came up for 89.99 with free shipping no bids....So i guess I got lucky because I know these intakes go easily for $120+ So I lucked out once again with ebay :D

I just want two new filters, one for the xA and xB! But they run over 30 bucks.

Gotta pay to play I suppose.
