Yesterday I took my newest 06 into Discount Tire to get them checked, because I was noticing a low speed wobble and high speed vibration.

Turns out the rim has a dent. :cautious: (Swapped in my 7 spoke Scion aluminum rims, sigh) So for now it just got moved to the rear until I can source a single used rim that's true...

Today I will be installing a (hopefully) color-matched back door hatch. This one was completely missing it, with the hatch open button and license plate light just hanging there by their wires.

Did my first oil/filter change on this 'new' one yesterday. Happy to see the original drain plug with beautiful threads still on it. Feels like it drives better. :D

Also discovered that the spare tire / donut was flat, and there was no jack. Glad I discovered that before needing to use it. So I'll be repairing or replacing the donut today, and I'm pretty sure I have a spare jack or three in my backyard...

What about the spare tire net?
I saw that but didn't know what it was... It's supposed to go around the spare? Huh. Had no idea, haha.

Also found out at the tire shop that they don't even make that size tire anymore... Or rather, they don't carry it if it is still manufactured. I was surprised. I've always preferred full-sized spares anyway, I wonder if there's a way to fit one? Shame that Toyota didn't design for that originally.

At least they didn't punk out and just give you no spare no jack no lug wrench like some do nowadays. You just get the hope and prayer can of fixaflat and 12v pump.

I was trying to hook the tire net up like it was cargo net and couldn't figure it out, lol. Almost threw it away before finding it's real purpose in the manual.

My latest Scion story
A couple of weeks ago
I Pull up into a store and park my car
next to a dark blue Gen 1
as I'm waiting in line in the store a younger guy turns around and he says you have a stick
Wanna sell your car?
I've been looking for one for a while!
I laugh and decline
We end up talking about our cars for at least 25 minutes
He said he wanted to learn all he can about his car.
I told him a bunch of stuff he had no idea about like his car was prewired for fogs
How to slap the relay in and more.
I turned him on to this place
I don't know if he will join, but I do know he will lurk here.
He noticed I didn't have a key fob
I told him mine broke off the key chain
And I need to get another one.
At that point he went in his car and he handed me a extra fob !
I thanked him and told him if he ever needs help
With his car to track me me on this site.
So If he is reading this
Thanks again!

I drove mine to Vegas and back this past weekend. Returned with a full-size Jungle Hunt arcade game inside, taking up the passenger seat and trunk area. Cakewalk. One of the reasons why I love this vehicle. :D

Changed the oil just before I left, and had no problems whatsoever, it was a very happy driving experience.

Pulled the upper "grille" to repaint it and realized it's not a grille at all.

Which isn't surprising, since it's nowhere near the radiator.

And while we're on the subject, can anybody tell me how to remove the two lower grilles? I'd like to paint them too.

For the middle grille, use either a hard plastic lever, or a flat blade screwdriver with its tip covered by tape, to release the grille’s perimeter thirteen clip-on tabs. There are six on the top and seven on the bottom.

To remove the bottom three-section grille, remove each of the two small outer sections by pulling its inward side away from the vehicle and pivot towards respective side of the vehicle. There is one tab on each section to lift from its slot. Each small section has a short plastic line to prevent loss if it pops free. Reach behind the bumper to compress the line’s tip and remove the section. Note: often the retaining lines are already broken off.

For the bottom grille center section, use the same pry tool to unfasten the perimeter’s nine clip-on tabs. There are four on the top and five on the bottom.
