Decided the hatch needed a redesign so last weekend I re-did the air ride. This weekend I spent chasing air leaks. Still have to finish the lower half but it's getting there.

I scored the Rostra cruise control from a 2004 xB at the junkyard this weekend! So psyched!!

Due to time constraints, I am installing the engine-compartment components first, and will install the interior wiring separately.

I bolted the unit to the firewall and installed the ground wire, no problem. And getting the wiring harness through the firewall grommet was no big deal either.

But while trying to install the throttle control cable, I found that I seem to be missing a little pulley:

...so at the moment, I don't have a way to connect the cc cable to my throttle. Anyone know if I need a specific Rostra or Toyota part for that, or can I just go to Ace Hardware and DIY it?

I’m sitting at the DMV registering my newly purchased stock 06Xb manual with custom tag resembling “lunchbox” 😂🥰 needs some love.. I’ve wanted one since the beginning and now that I’m free to do as I please I snatched this up! Can’t wait to make it beautiful again!

Okay, by closely examining Rostra's installation instructions, I determined that I was missing the Throttle Lever Bracket (Rostra part # 250-2616), because it was not present on the junkyard car from which I sourced the rest of the kit (someone had already taken the throttle body, and I'm assuming the bracket went with it).

I called Rostra, and they referred me to M&R Electronics (1-800-343-1382). Within 5 minutes of calling M&R, they had located a throttle bracket for me, and it is now on its way! I should note that they no longer have the complete 250-1755 cruise control kit.

Once the bracket arrives, I'll proceed with the install and post an update.

To attach the cable assembly to the bracket, a cotter pin and two #10 flat washers are needed.

To my delight, the new throttle bracket arrived today -- complete with the two washers and a cotter pin! Got the bracket installed with a minimum of fuss, and all I need to do now is install the wiring under the dash.
Hopefully it won't be long before I finally have cruise control!

I'm happy to report a successful cruise control installation! I connected the wiring yesterday and have already had a couple of test drives with it -- the cruise is working beautifully!

I will say that the engine-compartment part of the installation was the 'easy' part -- though it's a fairly easy project, overall. Installing the T-tap connector for the power wire was the trickiest part, as the back of the junction box is hard to access (might be easier for younger, more flexible people, lol). I used a large hand mirror and a camping lantern, and that made it much easier to find the correct wire and tap into it.

Another thing that made the installation simpler was that I had removed almost the whole cruise control system from the donor car, so I already knew how it should be laid out and where everything should go.

Happy to be checking off the 'cruise control' item on my list! And I must say, I'm really proud of all the little changes I've made to this car, as I'm just a hobbyist and have no automotive training at all! I appreciate all the knowledge and advice I've gained from this forum, and look forward to contributing as best I can!

fun ain't it? mine won't be that easy with strut brace and a ground wire base that will need to be worked around...I'll be using the RF switch to operate it instead of the stalk. Only thing I have mounted, lol.....pro crastinator FTL.....

This weekend I attempted to hook up a HF towing bar to the front of my toaster, with mixed results. (AKA fail) Gonna get back on it tonight.

Our firstgen front bumpers aren't designed very well, I shall say.
RF switch? Nice! Is that a Rostra?
Yes, was included with complete setup I bought from member here Myopic. Also have stalk but on the fence about it. RF switch actually supposed to mount to bottom center of steering wheel but as often as I will be using it I decided on the fuse door lid. It seemed sturdier there than on my str whl although less convenient to reach.

Reason number 8,673 as to why I buy OEM parts as much as possible.
Was in a pinch and bought my water pump and belt from a parts store.
I'm already throwing out the continental belt
And replacing with OEM
got tired of it squeeling like a pig.
I don't have the time to play with a tensioner
As Im knee deep into restoring a road runner
right now
I might as well order a OEM water pump
and add it to my parts stash.
The odds of the china parts store one holding up are against me

My goodyear belts have been quiet and bueno so far. Usually only use gates micro-v or oem because of reliability and noise issues with other name brand and no name cheap crap. Running gates on my Mazda that has lightened aluminum wp, alt, ps pulleys as well as underdrive aluminum crank pulley and even with all the aluminum pulleys the gates are silent.
Happy to report problem solved!
Not a peep from the new belts
Old ones are now emergency spares thrown in the back with the spare tire.
I try to use gates also
This was all they had at the store
So my options were none at the time.

When it squeeled I never even tried to tighten it Up more.
I just went and bought a real one and replaced it.
I knew it was tight enough
When I put it on and
I had more faith in my wrench spinning
Then a crappy part from a candy auto parts store that sells fluids and mostly junk.

Today is exciting. I am now behind the wheel of another 2006 xB. (Currently own 4, need to sell the others plus my Honda Passport & motorcycle...) And this one only has 120,000 miles on it. A few body dings/scratches/cosmetic imperfections, but I'm happily daily driving a toaster again.

It's been waaaaayyy too long.

I'll be swipswapping the best parts from the others onto this one. Might as well, right? And this one has a "fart can" on it and I can't stand those damn things, so I'll be grabbing a stock muffler off of one of the others.

Oh, and I know the rules. Pics required. :D And I've already ordered the rear hatchback handle. And will be swapping out the black front bumper plastic with one of my other silver ones.
