What did you do to your xb today??

I scored the Rostra cruise control from a 2004 xB at the junkyard this weekend! So psyched!!


Due to time constraints, I am installing the engine-compartment components first, and will install the interior wiring separately.

I bolted the unit to the firewall and installed the ground wire, no problem. And getting the wiring harness through the firewall grommet was no big deal either.


But while trying to install the throttle control cable, I found that I seem to be missing a little pulley:



...so at the moment, I don't have a way to connect the cc cable to my throttle. Anyone know if I need a specific Rostra or Toyota part for that, or can I just go to Ace Hardware and DIY it?

I'm happy to report a successful cruise control installation! I connected the wiring yesterday and have already had a couple of test drives with it -- the cruise is working beautifully!

I will say that the engine-compartment part of the installation was the 'easy' part -- though it's a fairly easy project, overall. Installing the T-tap connector for the power wire was the trickiest part, as the back of the junction box is hard to access (might be easier for younger, more flexible people, lol). I used a large hand mirror and a camping lantern, and that made it much easier to find the correct wire and tap into it.



Another thing that made the installation simpler was that I had removed almost the whole cruise control system from the donor car, so I already knew how it should be laid out and where everything should go.

Happy to be checking off the 'cruise control' item on my list! And I must say, I'm really proud of all the little changes I've made to this car, as I'm just a hobbyist and have no automotive training at all! I appreciate all the knowledge and advice I've gained from this forum, and look forward to contributing as best I can!

Reason number 8,673 as to why I buy OEM parts as much as possible.
Was in a pinch and bought my water pump and belt from a parts store.
I'm already throwing out the continental belt
And replacing with OEM
got tired of it squeeling like a pig.
I don't have the time to play with a tensioner
As Im knee deep into restoring a road runner
right now
I might as well order a OEM water pump
and add it to my parts stash.
The odds of the china parts store one holding up are against me

Not a peep from the new belts
Old ones are now emergency spares thrown in the back with the spare tire.
I try to use gates also
This was all they had at the store
So my options were none at the time.

When it squeeled I never even tried to tighten it Up more.
I just went and bought a real one and replaced it.
I knew it was tight enough
When I put it on and
I had more faith in my wrench spinning
Then a crappy part from a candy auto parts store that sells fluids and mostly junk.
