I replaced the cabin air filter for the first time ever on my '06. Opened up the slot and there wasn't even a filter in there. Dealer must have removed it for the sale. So it's getting it's first filter since I've owned it (15 years).

So, Low Kei is getting ready for some major work. Trans swap, engine rebuild, another set of headlights, fog lights and tails, bodywork, suspension work and air ride.
Still filling my radiator with small amounts of coolant and distilled water every day I drive it... No dripping, though. Checked oil, perfectly fine, no milkshake, nice color, and thickness is on point.

Checked auto transmission fluid level... Holy shite, extremely full and super watery. I'm in deep trouble. Unless there's a coolant fluid solution that would mix ok with transmission fluid and not be corrosive... (Audience laugh track plays)

Rides fine, but a lil online research tells me this thing will be due another transmission very soon.

Fark.

Funny enough I had the same thing happen with mine when I went to replace the cabin filter. Kinda annoying to me because now there's a bunch of limestone dust in mine from driving around in quarries a few summers ago.
I cleaned 15 yrs of dust out of the fan and filter housing recently when replacing the fan motor. Mine has a k&n electrostatic washable cabin filter in it now......all freshy fresh smellin. Looked like the original oem one from 2004 was in it when i got the car 2 yrs ago, lol.....faunky it was. Also took off cowl under hood and put some stainless screen over fresh air openings to keep trash and animals out.

There will be a lot happening to Low Kei in the next month. Engine rebuild, trans swap, body work, air ride, interior, possible supercharger, custom headlights and tail lights, new sub and amp setup, etc. Also going to pick up another vehicle as I’m selling my daily. The new vehicle is something I wanted for a while and is a distant relative to Scion (By that, I mean same parent company manufactured)
New oem pcv & maf on the way.....just because almost 20 yrs old. New NGK coppers.

Did new oem gas cap and hose clamps on the big hose of the charcoal canister chasing P0442 and P0456 small evap leak code I got the other day. My gas cap o-ring was pretty crispy but not cracked and that big hose down on the charcoal canister is aged and not cracked but wasn't very tight and somewhat easy to turn by hand so pulled it off and put a hose clamp on each end. The small line connecting charcoal canister to the steel line going to engine compartment was aged but didn't feel cracked anywhere. It has a clamp on both ends. The 2 pieces under the hood going to throttle body are new but need to find the leftover piece of hose from replacing them to do the short piece back by charcoal canister to also eliminate that being the culprit. Cleared fault with Torque app and will see if it is gone or comes back.

Also cleaned the aFe dry flow drop-in engine air filter even though it only has about 5000 miles on it but that 5k represents 2+ yrs of service.

Go with NGK Platinum. You’ll thank me later
Well, when these wear out in 30k miles, which will be about 10 yrs of driving, I might............only made 7k in it since March of 2020, lol................
Just replaced my 4 door lock actuators on my '05. Finally have power door locks again after 8+ years! Also gave the car a wash this weekend and waiting for parts to arrive.

Overall it was a pretty easy job but the but the rear two were more challenging because you have unscrew the door hinge in order to fully unscrew the actuator, whereas for the front ones I was able to unscrew the actuator with a stubby philips without unscrewing the hinges.

I've been battling the 442 code for a while
I made the 442 code go away for about 60k
there is a thread on Scion life that tells you how to pull the valve apart on the canister
and you can clean it out and I made a new gasket for it.
mine was all rusty nasty inside and stuck
it worked for a while but I think I'm just going to replace the canister itself next
istead of messing with it anymore.
I went thru the same thing changed gas cap that didn't do anything
checked all the lines then I ended up at the valve.
yeah, i'll be pullin that valve apart this wknd and see how long I can put off uppin the 2 bills for a new oem charcoal canister. read where people got about a yr out of the dorman and other non oem ones.....

I'll try to get some pics of the operation.....

the only thing I have done with the box is order up some speakers
and adapters just like 04 Toaster did
as I don't want to throw much loot into a sound system
I swapped my radio and I think only 2 speakers work. lol
it sounds ugly right now
I've been busy putting a transmission in a truck
and its a beast and its been too long since I yanked it out which doesn't help.
I've been itching to pull off my rocker skirts
and attack some rust and get my fender painted up
after new tires and a alignment
this thing has been running great
I bought my xB a cousin over the weekend

Towed my 3rd xB to a repair shop a friend recommended. They told me on Saturday that it did not need a fuel pump replacement as indicated by that same friend. Ugh. Then they spent 2 hours of diagnosis labor to try and figure out what was going on... Nothing determined yet. I'm feeling extremely frustrated right now... :(
