I don't think this has been addressed before, but something is funny to me...How come TCM's bumpers are(not look like, are ) darker than the rest of it? Ive been wanting to ask, but just never have. I also noticed it on a pic of a camo that i just saw...

a lot of cars bumpers are different colors. they are painted seperate of the car. and if at the wrong angle the paint will look darker , and the paint will be a diff color with bl;ack plastic underneath compared to with primered metal underneath

Damn…I hope I don’t have this problem with my box….Ill be bent.
I don’t know why Toyota didn’t learn from the Camrys. My money is on the type of plastic used, and the way it 'holds' on to the paint. This is not a new problem as my girlies Camry is a '99.

I was told that the problem is that the primer step was not done correctly, on the bumper[ ABS Plastic] it needs a special primer to adhere to the plastic, not the same primer as needed to the metal surfaces. causing a slight shade difference in the final coat. these cars may have been 'repaints'.

^^^I get this all the time "ask Padanky!" LOL

Most ABS Plastic bumpers are just scuffed and painted with no primer. This might be why they are lighter or darker

i was told by a couple of different auto painters that it is the flex agent added to the paint that causes this. it is more apparent on some colors than others. if they dont use these added flex agents the paint will not stay adhered properly to the plastic bumpers and such.

it seems on the Toyotas that the more you park it in the sun the more apparent the color difference is.

i had not noticed a big color difference in my bumper till just the other day. maybe it has to do with the heat we have been getting lately. i dunno, just a thought
