Not bad link. Ive seen it before, and its pretty good, but words only go so far. You can have ALL those elements, and it still can not look VIP. Its all in the package and presentation of the product. Pics are the only defining characteristic of what VIP is, not some article. And this is stupid, but Ive always understood that its pronounced "Vip" as in "zip". Thats where the pronunciation "bippu" comes from, in Japanese people trying to say "vip". Maybe Im just crazy. Ive being learning the culture, and researching as much as possible, and reading all I can, and that seems to be what I got out. I dont know though 100%. Maybe Im wrong. I guess Im just not impressed by what someone types about it. When people apply it and put it to use on the car, is when it counts!

Actual VIP/ Bippu originated because of the Yakuza's (893). Because of their likes/love of the high end luxury sedans, like BMW, Mercedes Benz, they were easliy spotted and targeted by their rival yakuza's. To avoid been targeted, they chose to mix in the "crowd" by driving their Japanese makes. Still they just could'nt get away from the "Hi Styling" they "Dress Up" their sedans with a look that gave the Yakuza their style.

I was born and brought up in Japan for 16 years and my mother being a Japanese, and my American father in the hotel/casino bussiness, I've seen many of these sedans parked at my house and around. Yakuza's are not a secret society mobsters. You know one when you see one, they're not secretive. From their Sedan's, Full bodyTattoo at bath houses, some with no pinky, and their sunglasses, to their tanto.
I also use to hang out with the Bosozoku and actually became a blood brother with one of the "Oidon" Leader, when I was 8 years old. I rode for awhile, as a "saru" monkey, riding on the back of their bike, till my older brothers found out and I never seen them again. Later, I found out that one of my uncle who is/was involved in the yakuzas spoke to the Boso's and that was that.

scotty you're right, japanese cannot pronounce the "V" "R" "L" I say podaydo instead of potatoe.......;)

good find! I believe the text on that page is actually a direct transcript of an interview given to HIN by Mr. Yuen of Junction Produce...

for anyone wondering why TG keeps typing (893) after 'yakuza', it's becasue 'ya-ku-za' is a traditional pronunciation for 8-9-3. The more contemporary way to pronounce it would be 'hachi-kyu-san'.

So...what's the deal with 893? There's a (i don't know if i'd call it traditional, but...) gambling game called 'oycho kabu' played with a japanese variation of western playing cards. The worst possible hand in that game is 8,9 and 3. This hand both symbolizes 'bad fortune' and 'great skill', as only a real master can recover from that hand to win the game.

You the man Eric!

Did I ever tell you my story about meeting the head Yakuza leader?
Long story short, I was on the same plane as he was when I went to visit my girlfriend. (Now wife) I had a nice talk with him. When we landed, my girlfriend told me we had to leave quickly. I ask why? She pointed out that he just so happen to be on my flight from Osaka. She pointed him out to me and to my surprise, I told her I was talking to him.

tru, tru. you need great skill to get out of the deep hole. the odds are high, but you must stay in, to survive. "Hanafuda" is the game of skill and fortune.......good or bad? it all depends on the hand.

Not there's anything wrong with this, but I find it a wee bit amusing to have an other than Japanese person explaining to us what "VIP' is all about. Seeing as it seems to have originated in Japan and all. I also experienced the correct pronuncation while purchasing my bodykit. It's referred to as Bippu. The article in a magazine I read some time ago was talkin about Y33 Q45 yakuza this and J/P M45 yakuza that. I'm reading this and thinkin, You guys are in New Jersey! I started laughing at this story and I couldn't go any farther. The article made VIP seem so gimmicky. Like some Junior can VIP their cars and be gangster or something. Let's leave that to the Donks and Bubbles please.
