Hi, I am observing some metal to metal noise why accelerating. Its especially noticeably when going up a hill at low rpm. It appears to go away after it automatically shifts to third gear and from then on it drives fine. The noise is like metal to metal similar to a worn axle noise but not as loud. Car starts, drives and shifts fine. It is a 2006 XB with 181K Miles. Any help will be appreciated.

With the hood open, car in gear and foot on the brake rev your engine while having someone else watch it. The engine will lift up and back. If it moves more than 1-2 inches then your engine mounts are worn and need replacing. Go with factory ones if they do need replacing as they will last longer than aftermarket ones.

That may well be the issue because someone suggested that I replace them years ago but never did. Will check on it this time. Thanks!
