The final Scion limited edition vehicle of the year lands in dealerships next month. The Scion xB Release Series 4.0 gets doused in Maziora Torched Penny paint, a color-shifting finish that changes depending on your viewing angle and/or how light plays off the car's surface (similar to the Mystichrome finish made available on the 2004 SVT Mustang Cobra) . In this case, the colors morph into shades of brown, bronze, and gold.
The color has been used in Japan already on various show cars and on a JDM special-edition bB, and while the tricky hue clearly won't be for everyone, it is definitely interesting. We're sure that Scion will have no trouble finding 2500 takers for the multi-colored miniwagon. In addition to the deluxe paint, the Release Series 4.0 receives some visual aids in the form of a rear spoiler, Modellista grille, and rear bumper protector. Everything's color-keyed, of course. Inside, the floormats tell the occupants that yes, this is a Release Series Scion. It also gets multicolor dash lighting, a new shift knob (on cars with manual transmissions), and a numbered plaque.
The cost of this brown chameleon is the xB base price, $14,030, plus an additional $1,930 (automatic) or $1,980 (manual).
