Hope someone will correct me if I'm wrong but the mustard colored bB is the zenki model NCP31. The zenki model NCP30 came with deleted sideskirts and rear lips, and a front lip that curved back under the bumper.

I'm fairly certain that the body kit style does not determine the chassis #. You're referring to the base model kit, I assume Rich?
like this:

I've seen multiple listing of NCP30's with lips, like this:
http://www.tradecarview.com/used_car/japan car/toyota/bb/12904639/

And NCP31's without lips:
http://www.tradecarview.com/used_car/japan car/toyota/bb/12941017/

The NCP## is determined by the engine and drivetrain combination, there are other following model codes for aerokits and accessories but I haven't figured out what means what for those.

*Edit: NCP30 w/ lips: http://www.tradecarview.com/used_car/japan car/toyota/bb/12927561/

Too many pages of similar looking cars :p

I do believe you're right Ryan. I'm guessing the base model was more common on the NCP30 as a way to further lower the purchase price. I stand corrected.

On a somewhat related note; I do find it disheartening to think that we're still many years away from being able to legally import a full rhd bB(Open Deck and NCP35 come to mind) to the U.S. You could try to sneak one through Canada in 2-3 years, but it's still a fairly expensive process.

ncp30: 2000-2003 2wd different engines available 1.3L and 1.5L
ncp31: 2004-2005 same options but minor changes ie: bumpers slight interior trim, hatch, factory options
ncp34: open deck
ncp35: AWD

the small front lip, no sides, no rear lip is more than likely the base model, or awd model.

this is what i believe to have found out with hours and hours of research, owning parts, fitting parts, and talking to a few people here and there.

If you take a look here: http://www.tradecarview.com/ru/specifications/toyota/bb/
You'll see that there are two split production years for the 1st gen bB(xb), one listed as January 2001 and the other as January 2003. According to all the listing and searching that I've done, bB's manufactured up to February 2003 are the early "Zenki" models with the short bumpers, smooth hatch and other misc. items. bB's manufactured March 2003 and onward are the "Kouki" models with the long bumpers, license plate in the hatch, etc; stylistically, aside from factory options not available outside of japan, they are the equivalent of the USDM xB.

You will also notice on the list, that there are no NCP30 models listed with a 1.5l engine, only as a 1.3l. All NCP31, 34 and 35 models, both early and late production, are listed to have the 1.5l. As mentioned, the NCP34 is the Open Deck bB and the NCP35 is the AWD option model.

Zenki NCP30: http://www.tradecarview.com/used_car/japan car/toyota/bb/12927561/

Kouki NCP30: http://www.tradecarview.com/used_car/japan car/toyota/bb/12953824/

Zenki NCP31: http://www.tradecarview.com/used_car/japan car/toyota/bb/12953808/

Kouki NCP31:http://www.tradecarview.com/used_car/japan car/toyota/bb/12878876/

Zenki NCP34(Open Deck):http://www.tradecarview.com/used_car/japan car/toyota/bb/12845017/
To my knowledge, the Open Deck bB was no longer manufactured after 2002, so there is no later model the altered styling.

Zenki NCP35: http://www.tradecarview.com/used_car/japan car/toyota/bb/12940922/
Kouki NCP35: None listed at the moment, but they are listed from time to time.

Further, this page list the available engines under each Chassis Code: http://toyotamarket.ru/jp/115110/
You can also navigate in to take a look at the diagrams available for each year, the 2003+ diagrams for the NCP30,31 and 35 all show the USDM equivalent bumper covers, side skirts and hatches.

I'm absolutely positive that is how the chassis codes are broken down, at least the NCP## part anyhow.

I read somewhere that bB bumpers have the base model (rounded lip) already attached under the existing lip, is this true? If not, where can I buy the bumper/lip front and rear?

Yes, it's true on the early rear bumpers. Under the lips, the rear bumper is just a base model bumper but it does have a series of slots added and the lips have matching tabs to locate it in place. I used body filler to smooth it out and also filled in the holes for the sideskirts.

As far as the front base model lips, just keep your eyes pealed. I got my pair already painted my color from FarrbB thinking I'd be sitting on them for a while until a BB bumper surfaced. Got lucky and found a front bumper soon thereafter. Life also had a pair for sale at that time. It's a two piece lip, so shipping one from Japan shouldn't be too bad. The base model look is nice because you can roll crazy low without scraping.

Should read "Lifex" damn auto correct.

Wish I had a better answer for ya but I managed to find my front lip, front bumper, rear bumper, and JDM hatch here locally in SoCal from all different sources. If you don't want the hassle of buying from Yahoo Japan, I would recommend a couple of forum members that are Americans living in Okinawa. Both cww180 and jdmisme could probably be able to help you find a front lip set. As far as larger parts like bumpers and hatches go, BigLobe here on the forum has had good luck dealing with a lady in Japan that has a contract with DHL and can offer reasonable shipping rates.
