Hey everyone! After driving around my pretty much stock 2004 xB for the last 2 years i have finally decided to go ahead and start my very own build thread.

So where do i start? I bought the box back in July of 2013 from a guy that had purchased it for his daughter but ended up not wanting it because she couldn't get the hang of driving a manual transmission. Anyways, the box had about 130,000 miles on her and a clean California title so we settled for somewhere between $4200 and $4500 i cant remember exactly. Pretty good deal if you ask me. The interior was pretty much spotless considering i am only the third owner (besides the very faint tobacco smell. i don't think anybody ever actually smoked IN the car), and the exterior was an 8.5/10.

(Here is the box the day i brought her home)

I bought the car with my new job in mind. I knew i was going to be commuting about 150 miles round trip every day and the Chevy S10 i was driving before really wasn't ideal. I didn't really have any mods in mind at first really because i wouldn't ever have time to do them (i worked super long hours 6-7 days a week). Only thing i did have done was the exhaust purely because i love driving a car with some sound to it. Fab'd up a custom cat-back Aero Turbine 2540i back in December of 2013.

(forgot to mention my box came with 14" stealies for some odd reason)

After that all i did was drive the car and kept up on the routine maintenance. Never a problem until the biggest problem of all hit me earlier this year; ANOTHER CAR.

So in late January of 2015 some idiot t-boned the front of my car as i was sitting still waiting to pull out of a shopping center driveway. He was coming into the driveway and must have lost control or something. He hit me going at least 20 mph. The result of the driver side impact was the entire front end of my car being jammed over to the passenger side. From the outside the damage didn't look too bad but after stripping the car down it was evident that the frame rails had been bent a considerable amount. After months of going back and forth with the boneheads insurance company i finally just took him to small claims court an won.

(this is what she looked like right after the accident)

(Before having the frame straightened)

All of that brings us to now. I just got the B back from the frame shop and she is ready to be put back together! while i have the whole front end stripped i have taken it upon myself to start gathering up any parts that may need to be replaced/upgraded within the next few thousand miles. Clutch, half shafts, motor mounts, control arms, sway bar and the rest of the suspension components because 165,000 miles is long enough to ride on stock shocks/struts/springs. Not to mention the parts I NEED to replace like the radiator, ac condenser, core support, hood, fenders, bumper and headlights.

So naturally i have decided that if i am going to put the time and effort into fixing this car up i am going to finally make it the way i want it to be and i am going to be updating this thread as i go. let me know what you guys think i would appreciate any and all feedback.

(Here is where she sits now. all straight and square ready for the pile of new parts i have to be installed.)

If it still appears to be crooked up front its because i haven't taken an updated photo since cutting out the old core support.

Rcdrift was in your position a few years ago and now he has one of the best ones on the east coast, and definitely top 10 in the country. that being said you can bounce back from this, parts are still fairly cheap, and Rock Auto will be your friend

Thanks for the support guys! Didn't expect anyone to reply to my thread being that it's my first write up. I will be diving into a great bit of work this weekend starting with an OE replacent clutch and half shafts tomorrow. Hopefully I'll be able to get through all of the suspension this weekend. I've got new OE control arms, front and rear hotchkis sway bars, new bushings, KYB GR2 shocks/struts and Tein S-tech springs. . My wheels also got delivered today. I picked up a new set of Avid.1 AV-12's for cheap and am actually impressed by the quality. Any suggestions on a good tire size that won't rub on a set of 15x8 +25 wheels?

If anybody has any experience with these projects or parts I'd love to hear what your thoughts are. Cheers!

Bigruss, I was thinkin 195/55 or 205/50. Will the 195/55 give it the "stretched" look? Don't know much about tires but the stretched look isn't really what I'm going for considering its my daily driver and I want the tires to last as long as possible. Thanks for the help man!

So I've finally just finished washing up after my first full Saturday working on the box. Started the day off by pulling the front hubs, control arms, and struts to make room to pull the half shafts and drop the trans. Everything came out relatively easily. Minimal swear words involved. once I lowered the transmission I went ahead and dropped the lower crossmember, pulled the old sway bar and installed the new Hotchkis front sway bar because it was just really easy to get to at that point. Once I pulled the clutch, I sent the flywheel off to a buddies machine shop to be resurfaced. While I waited for the flywheel I pulled out the cherry picker, suspended the motor and went in on the motor mounts. Once I had the flywheel back I buttoned up the clutch job, lifted the trans back in, finished up the front motor mounts and got the pain in the ass cherry picker out of the way. Unfortunately that was my stopping point for the day. Tomorrow i plan on going to harbor freight to buy a hydraulic press so I can press the new bearings into the front hubs, install new front brakes and rotors, throw in the new control arms and buttocn up the rest of the suspension by installing the new shocks/struts, springs and rear sway bar. Wish me luck for a nice productive Sunday!
(Really had a hard time keeping up with taking photos along the way but I will try to get better!)

Alright the box is back on 4 wheels. I finished up all of the suspension work which included new KYB gr2's/TEIN s-tech's front and rear, hotchkis sway bars also front and rear, new end links up front, new wheel bearings in the front, new hub assembly's in the rear and new brakes all around. Next on the agenda will be cutting out the radiator support up front and welding the new one in. After that I have to paint the new core support and a few other spots in the engine bay that I welded up (couple stress cracks in the frame from the accident). Once all that is said and done I will be ready to mount the new sheet metal and get her in the paint booth!

Here are some really quick photos I snapped this evening. I didn't have much room in my shop to get the whole car in the frame but I really like the way the car sits on the new suspension. Lowered but still able to daily drive it without to much worry of rubbing or scraping. Anybody else ever been lowered on a similar setup? Let me know what you think.

This of course is on the stock wheels but I can't wait to get my new wheels mounted in the next couple weeks.

Alright so as ive mentioned above i have a surprise for the wheels, but the more i think about it, i really could use my fellow forum members' help!

So as ive said before, I picked up a set of Avid.1 AV-12 15x8 +25 wheels. The wheels were really more than i expected for the price. They are relatively light and the finish is great, however there is one little thing about these wheels that SUCKS...THE CENTER CAPS! The caps that came with the wheels are really cheap feeling, "chromed" plastic caps with an adhesive-backed Avid.1 logo to stick in the center.

So rather than ditching the cheap center caps and running the rims without them, i decided to bust out the digital calipers and take some measurements. After some pretty extensive research i came across some billet center caps made for a Porsche 914 that measured up perfectly! (62mm)

I recieved the new billet caps today and they look AMAZING on my wheels, and fit PERFECLTY.

After seeing the caps on the wheels i still feel like something is missing. Ive been thinking since im going to be re-badging my xB with toyota emblems that i should add some sort of logo to the wheels too. Being that my brother works with a CNC laser engraver These are my options:

My first idea was to do the traditional Toyota logo like because it would be easy to recognize on the small face of the center cap.

Another option would be to spell out the word Toyota, but i worry it will come out super small and wont really catch your eye.

Lastly i thought the TRD logo might be cool but besides the exhaust there really arent any other performance mods done on my box so if slapping a racing logo on it makes me a "poser" then maybe i shoudlnt??

Let me know what you guys think!

Alright so like i said earlier i have something pretty cool planned for my wheel set up. I recently picked up a set of Avid.1 Av-12 15x8 +25 wheels and i am extremely happy with the quality of the wheels besides one thing...THE CENTER CAPS. The caps have a good shape but they are made of this really cheap "chrome" plastic with a plastic Avid.1 sticker to stick in the center.

So after thinking about it i busted out the digital calipers, took some measurements and started searching the web. after a couple of hours i came up with some really cool billet aluminum center caps made for some Porsche 914 wheels and they were the perfect size! (62mm)

I received the caps today and they fit my wheels perfectly and look 100 times better than what they came with.

Although i really dig the new caps, i feel like there is still something missing. since i plan on re-badging my car with Toyota emblems, i thought why not do the same with the wheels? Conveniently enough my brother has access to a CNC laser engraver at work so here are my options:

My first thought was the original Toyota logo purely because it would be really easy to recognize on the small face of the center cap.

Next i thought the word "Toyota" spelled out across the face of the cap would look cool but i worry it will be really hard to read.

Lastly, the TRD logo. I think this would look cool besides the fact that my box has absolutely no performance mods other than the exhaust, and i don't want to come off as some wanna be race car poser.

Well there is the big idea! I'd really appreciate any feedback from anybody on this forum. I figured if anybody would know what to do it'd be you guys!

Alright so just a quick update from this weekend. I got the old bent up radiator support pulled out and welded in the new one. Was relatively easy if you know how to drill out spot welds. Putting the new one in was a little tedious...lots of measuring because if it goes in crooked the fenders will never mount up properly! Once that's was done I test fitted the new sheet metal just to make sure the after market parts were legit. It all went fairly well but I didn't mess with it for too long. Hood isn't perfectly lined up but I'll be taking the sheet metal back off next week to start prepping for paint!

Let me know what you guys think and if there are any mods that can delete my duplicate posts from the other day that would be great.

Great job getting it back together. Those wheels are amazing and the center caps look fantastic. It's a great feeling when something comes together like that on the little details.

There are a few companies that cut acrylic and laser engrave, maybe you could get some inserts made for the center caps.

I know diode dynamics does acrylic, maybe contact them to see if they still do custom stuff.
