I have a 2008 xB. A few years ago I noticed one day that the passenger side roof drip moulding was missing. I'm not sure what happened to it, whether it fell off while driving or if someone stole it, although I have no idea why someone would want it. I never replaced it as it didn't seem to do anything.

Well now the driver side moulding is missing, so the mystery continues.

Has anyone else had their roof drip moulding disappear? Is there a part that could have failed? Is there any harm in not replacing them, other than aesthetics?

Any thoughts will be appreciated. Thanks.

I know that drive-thru automatic car washes really like to 'remove' them. That's happened to me several times. They're held on very weakly. But at one point an attendant flagged me down in the vacuuming area holding my drip molding and told me that this sort of thing was a common occurrence.

If you ever decide to replace them (There's no need to, save cosmetics) then make sure to liberally apply some sort of permanent adhesive to the underside.

Thanks for the quick reply. I hadn't thought about the car wash, but it makes sense. I did run it through one last week. I think the cost to replace both along with the brackets is $200+, so I'll do without them for now.

Sorry that happened. The moldings serve to deflect the flow of water and direct it to the rear of the vehicle. This reduces the amount of water hitting you when you enter or exit the vehicle. They are directional and do not function correctly if not on the designated side. They are not glued on, instead they snap into a channel mounted clip at each end. The clips are glued on and also can pop off going through a car wash if the molding is not present. A salvage yard would be a less expensive source versus new parts.

If they’re not mounted and glued well. they will fly off while driving. Had passenger side flapping on the freeway. by the time I was able to start pulling over I saw it fly away in my rear view mirror. Go to junk yard but they are usually one of the first items taken. It happens that often good luck

are you talking about the plastic double stick tape covers that are after market plastic parts over the window also used for air deflection?

As these rubber parts age, they shrink and become un attached. New ones however are not cheap but will last several years also.
