I just recently purchased a used scion xb. i am so far pleased with it only thing is i have no clue what the red and green lights are for positioned right above the ash tray. they are positioned like so: red green red. and the red lights will flash both at the same time or only one at a time. also while they are flashing a noise is being made that sounds like a police radar detector is the best i can describe the noise. the lights like i said can be found right above the ashtray. if any one can help me with identifying this i would be very happy.

the picture of the front is something that i wonder is connected to the lights.

Whatever it is, it sounds like an aftermarket thing, not Scion.

Could be an actual stealth radar detector installation - I dunno.

Let us know when you find out, OK?

Oh! Welcome to ClubxB!!

My scion is an '05. yea theres alot of after market stuff in it . im still trying to figure out the stereo i believe its an eclipse avn5435, my main concern with the stereo is that some idiot will see it and want it, thus smashing my window to get it. so i have to see if i can find a dummy cover or something to disclose it when im not in the car. Since it doesnt pop off like most stereo faces. Anyway thanks for the welcome, ill post pics, of the lights, when i have a chance.

Hmm...... could it be some type of radar? Either to measure distance...

Or just a detector for "John Law?" (No offense Peace Officers!)

I wonder if you bug the dealer if they will ask the trade in person, they should have their info?

Hmmmmmmm... the unit on the front bumper resembles a 'laser shifter/jammer' unit that confuses police laser speed detectors. I don't recognize it as a specific unit, since I'm unfamiliar with them, but it does look like a custom stealth install of such a unit. The Escort ZR3, for example, has one green and two red LEDs, etc.

Is there anything on the rear of the car?

It could also be an 'obstruction detector' that warns if it thinks something is too close to your box, but my first guess is a concealed laser jammer.

OK, that pretty much removes the chance it's a 'parking sensor' and puts us in the laser detector/jammer.

Hidden somewhere in the vehicle, within reasonably easy reach of the driver, is likely a switch to turn the device on and off. This sort of switch is usually hidden under the edge of the dash or inside an innocent seeming compartment with a door, or otherwist concealed from casual spotting by a police officer.

I'd try to get a look behind that panel and follow the added wiring to see where it goes - same for the unit in the grill.

Keep in mind that I could be totally wrong in my guesses as to what this is, but that's what the parts you've showed in the pics would lead me to think.

Here's what some of those devices look like:

Good luck! :D

I agree with Tomas...they do make radar detectors that are hidden like that and it would explain whatever that is on the grill as well. Try to follow the wire to a junction box that would identify what it is...it's pretty simple to get into that part of the dash. I also find it kind of odd that a dealership would sell a car with something they have no clue about being installed in the car.

Alright, after carefully inspecting my car i found a box that was connected to the chip looking thing. it was ziptied and rubber cemented down to a rail also on the back of the vehicle was two identical ones on either side. i also found a name using a mirror and a flash light the "K40 Laser Defuser plus" i looked that name up on line and it is in fact a jammer. i guess the 2 lights mean i have two. i also noticed a knob attached to the base of the steering wheel almost underneath the dash i dunno if it is infact a knob or just a wire case ill investigate further. In any case im going to try to get an instruction manual on this the websites doesnt work. sooooo thank you very much if i had not talked with you guys/gals i would have been in complete mystery.
