What should I really pay attention to.
Anything in particular that should steer me away?

Thanks

I just bought an 06.5 and got lucky. Look for leaks under the engine, cv joint grease splatter or tears, how does it shift when driven, check oil, general cleanliness. All vin numbers match - doors, hood, trunk. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply.
Hopefully it's in pretty good shape.
Also, A/C work? How many miles? I usually take a couple of 2x4s screwed together for a ramp, and a large piece of card board for checking underneath. Flashlight, glasses because I'm old.

Flashlight for sure.

Check for frame rust too. We love boxes but an 04 is 19 years old. A tiny bit isn't bad, because that can be scraped and sanded - But there are splendid examples out there- ( Granny driven and families) don't settle for less.

Well....I bought it.
Going to pick it up tomorrow.
5 speed
237k miles
No rust to speak of.
No leaks that I could see.
People have owned it for 17 years.
Inside is clean.
Some dents and dings.
It did shudder starting out in first gear, sometimes. Rest of gears were smooth.
Could have been me, maybe.
Seemed like when I took it slow it didn't shudder. Engine or trans mount maybe?

Maybe, but if it gets worse it's easy to replace. I bet she shifts like butter. Congratulations enjoy! Let us know any future updates.

Congratulations on your acquisition of the Thunder Cloud Metallic (TCM) xB!

The flywheel surface may have some scoring or burnish which can cause a shudder during initial engagement. If the clutch engages fully then the condition is not urgent to address, it is just a nuisance. Possibly the previous owner can advise whether the clutch has ever been replaced.

Are you considering any mods for the xB?

I will ask.
Thanks for the info.
Right now we will clean it up and get it on the road.
My son will probably drive it the most as I have my 08 that is my daily.
Maybe, unless I like driving this one better.
Time will tell.

Lol 😆 🤣
Didn't see this until today, but congrats! Jealous of your manual transmission! Miles are a little bit high, but Toyotas last forever if cared for, and it sounds like you will be. Welcome to our little toaster haven.

I think sometimes when the clutch is cold, that can happen

I had one of my other sons drive it. He has a mazda speed Protege turbo 5spd. He had no issues. Guess I am not used to such a short clutch. At least that's what he said while laughing at me.:LOL::LOL:

Needs a little work, brakes, tires, tune up.
Engine and trans seem fine.
Some dents and dings, like some tree branches fell on it. Not great but not terrible, for the price I am ok with it.
