I was driving "The Green Box" and the OBD

Monitor Alarm went off!

The Cooling system Temp was higher than it should be.

Has anyone used an OBD port engine Monitor? Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/KONNWEI-Automotive-Computer-Speedometer-Temperature/dp/B08GYLXJ1V I think I need something like this.

I found a crack in the Radiator Cap Housing!

I was debating about attempting to patch it up,

but decided to see IF it was available aftermarket.

And it is!

The fact that it is Available in the aftermarket

SHOULD suggest there is a NEED for it!

I briefly considered taking one off the In-Op RS 1,

but decided to get a new one.

After installing a new one on the Green Box,

I got around to Checking the one on the RS 1.

Low and behold, IT is Cracked in the SAME area as well!!

And THAT is most likely WHY I ended up buying the Box!

Because it over heated and blew the Head Gasket.


So That makes a 50% failure rate (so far) in my xB Fleet!


So you have been WARNED!

Cooling system problems can cause engine failure!

The Sooner you can detect a problem, the better chance

of keeping your Box out of the Grave yard!

Yup. One of my xBs did the exact same thing. (Can't remember which one at the moment) Was very happy to be able to find a new part for it. Wish they offered a metal version, as obviously the plastic ain't quite holding up.

I saw a metal one on ebay that didn't look the same but looked like it could be adapted.

And it was reasonably priced.

But decided to get it locally.

I own a gen 2 xB but I still read some of gen 1 threads and came upon this one. my gen 2 xB doesn't have a temp gauge and I supposed the gen 1 don't either. and I never knew there's such monitors that I can just plug into the OBD port, so cool. I'm going to get one as I always wondered if I'll have enough time to pull over and shut off the engine if I ever see that supposedly 'red' light for high coolant temperature?

I'm very happy with mine... And "luckily" if you see red it's not super dangerous, but if you ever see blinking red, pull over/turn off engine immediately or ****'s gonna get real bad...
