Foam pad -where does this go??

I swapped motors and have this left over... Where does it go? Is it important?

Looks like a covering or something. If nothing is leaking I wouldn't worry. 1st Gen?

That is the intake manifold insulator which keeps engine compartment heat away from the manifold and provides a slight noise reduction. I always recommend keeping OEM components like this on the vehicle.

I have a Gen1 and yield to the Gen2 site members who have experience with the 2.4 engine.

Yes sir! Reinstalling the insulator is worth the time and effort.
I am confident Scion/Toyota would not have included the insulator unless their engineers deemed it necessary even on a low-cost vehicle.
