I have a 2005 Scion XB, at start up the dash lights flash, nothing works, the speedometer or gas gauge. The car runs fine and after about 15 miles or so the dash begins to work as normal. Any suggestions on what it could be is greatly appreciated.

from what I have experienced with mine doing it......happens only when it is under 40 degrees in the morning and stops when I buckle my seatbelt. As far as what the actual cause is.....lots of speculation about corroded ground points and battery issues but no real answers. I don't live in winter areas where roads get salted, car has no corrosion or rust issues and has brand new battery with volt gauge on 12.5 with key on acc after sitting overnight, 14.0 upon startup and stays at 13.8 after car is warmed up. car has no other issues or codes and runs just fine when ignoring the flashing. Ongoing mystery at this point with bunch of people having same issue. There is another thread about it on here.

I know that this is a cool temperature problem with the printed circuit board behind the clock display.... I'm in South Florida and as soon as it gets above 70 this flashing has has always stopped. Here is a new one..... yesterday I got into the 2005XB, and without a key in the ignition I noticed a very slight noise every second or two. Each pulse of noise the speedometer would jiggle(visibly move) a little. If I could get a working/used replacement control board, I would be able to tell if it was the source of this new symptom. Any one have this problem?????? Has anyone got a good solution to the dash flashing problem?????

someone said they replaced some resistor or capacitor and it fixed the problem. Check some of the other threads about this issue and you'll find it but iirc, it did not have specifics about the replacement part or pics.

Mine did a new trick the other day.....temp got down to 15F and when I started up the car there was no light and no flashing. I have a cabin temp gauge but it only does C and it said -9 at this point. Usually the gauge comes back to life at 12C on that gauge. At 2C the gauge and clock started doing it's flashing thing. It took most of my 10 mile surface street drive to work before heater got cabin to 12C and at that point gauge starting working normally.

You can get junkyard parts but odometer won't be the same and don't know if that will be issue for inspections or sale for new owner to get registration. Also heard something about odometer being able to be matched to ecu somehow. Just dealing with mine unless it gives up totally

I'm looking around at getting a used combination meter assembly just to see if I can stop the FLASHING. I removed the bezel ring around the gauges today to get the EXACT part number... mine was 83800-5c760
