Hello, I've always just read threads but never posted. It feels sad to admit that when I finally am posting, I am now having to retire my 2006 xB.. truly the best car I've ever had! I'm having a hard time finding what will be next. I have my reasons for not immediately looking at the other box cars, I want to be open to other experiences. Does anyone have an opinion on a car to look into that compares to the reliability of the xB?

Thanks!

One word for ya. I'll say it three times: Honda Honda Honda...... CRV reliability right in line with Toyota. Hyundai is garbage- GM is garbage 🗑 Subaru: A maybe ( but they're kinda expensive now) Nissan? Garbage transmissions- 🗑 Ford eco boost Garbage ( start- stop technology is terrible) There you have my rundown.. Unless????? You wanna go 2nd Gen xB 2012 and up no oil consumption issues- Power, reliability, and cheap ( ish ) to own.

Yes, welcome (to posting) on the forum. I'm a Toyota guy, but also agree on Honda reliability. Quality engineering and manufacturing seems to be job 1 at both companies.

Just buy another one, they're much less than $5K pretty much anywhere you look. (Except car lots) Are you retiring it because it no longer runs, or another reason? Or do you just prefer newer vehicles?

I'm retiring it because there are some problems happening with the suspension due to rust that are only going to get worse.
There were some reasons I was looking for something newer, safety features etc. but I hadn't decided on anything yet. I have looked at other scions my year and newer. If the right thing popped up in my area I'd consider it still.

Best car I ever owned (and for the longest time)?
My 2005 xB!
Successor?
My 2017 Subaru Impreza!
AWD, same or better tight turning radius as the xB, cavernous carge area, same or better fuel economy, cruise control, very comfortable (heated) seats, great all around visibility…

I concur with the assessment that the CRV has great reliability. The Subaru Crosstrek, Mazda3 hatchback and a Honda Element are all great options. The older CRV and Element with the legendary 2.4L are extremely reliable, although the 4 speed transmission in the older ones can make the car pretty buzzy at highway speeds. This little gem was stupid reliable As was our previous 2007 Element.

The Honda CRV is a step up ( actually several steps up ) from any xB. The only thing the xB had/has on the CRV was price. You get what you pay for. A 2008-2015 scion xB you could get anywhere from $4900 - to $12,000 with 79k to 106k miles - a CRV with that many miles would go for $13,000 to $20,000 easy..

Yep, sure did. A different approach but 2 great ideas. They should bring both vehicles back. I believe there would be a market for them, especially in hybrid or electric form.
I think that an electric xB would be the only way I would consider buying an EV. As it is, with only 105K on my 2008 xB, that won't be for a while. ;)

I have no desire to own a coal powered bad for the environment EV
riding around with a chemical bomb and getting
electromagnetic pulses thru my body while in it
that the side effects
have never been tested on humans ??

Electric is so bad for the environment. I can't get behind an electric car anything. When they can figure out how to build a battery without digging skyscraper sized holes in the ground, I will get excited about it.
I was figuring maybe another 25 years before EV technology is an option. There's absolutely ZERO infrastructure to support it, plus if the government didn't force it on the American public, companies would develop it safely. It's turned California into an electric nightmare..

I've even heard that electric vehicles have to be flat bed towed or they are ruined. If you run out of power someone has to sit by you while your car charges off a battery. I bet both of those experiences are pretty pricey in a battery powered car.
