Like the title says, I'm wondering if anybody has done this mod. Last night I changed my HVAC controls to red, but now I'd like to do the controls on the steering wheel. I've never attempted anything with the wheel, and just want to know if its at all possible, and how much time and effort I'll be on this.

If anybody has done this, please just a simple how-to would be appreciated.

sure

search on sl there is a thread on how to do it. also the leds in there aren't the same as hvac control lights they require unsoldering a square flat led from a circuit board and re soldering the new one. if its not something you can tackle find a shop that does computer builds and pay them to do the delicate work. the thread also has links and info on the led sizes to do this and radio face along w/gauges. i think a total of 10-20 leds to change all. good luck.;)

I changed mine to red, and it's a piece of cake, since it's only 3 leds. it took about 45 min total from breakdown to putting everything back together. I'll have to find the link to where I bought the leds to see what size they are, but they are smd type leds. I would suggest to practice soldering circut board devices first if you haven't done it before. I'll search for the size of the leds, and post back tomorrow.

I also did changed the clock, air bag/seatbelt, driver's side door controls, HVAC, and defroster/Hazard/AC buttons all to red. If you have any questions on them hit me up.

^^^^True...the oem lights inside the HVAC panel aren't leds, but they can be switched out for leds with the help of a few resistors.

That method looks prettty easy. Mine was done the same way, except a resistor was added to the (+) lead of each led. No one should have any problems with either method.

I just did my friends to purple yesterday. It looks sweet, but we had to redo it a few times until we found leds that were actually purple and had enough brightness to them.

The LEDs I bought for the steering wheel controls were these :http://lc-led.com/View/itemNumber/101

Just a note that these are the same ones I used to change the turn indicators to red also.

Sorry....you asked for a how-to on this swap. Follow this link to a TC swap, and it'll give ya the details on how to do. It's the same for our Xb steering wheel controls. Just use the LEDs that I posted above.
