(This is about my XB)

I just got my catalytic converter stolen off my Honda Element
during the day in my driveway. While I was in my front room.
I heard 2 identical sounds (mechanical) but thought it was a car with
issues driving by. Then the next morning I went to start my car
in the morning... and of course the LOUD freaked sound.
And that is when I realize it was an electric saw sound that I
heard the day before. chop chop. F.
And I was literally 20 feet away. F.

So now I am concerned about my XB.
Which is also on my driveway.
(no garage)

Are catalytic converters easy to steal on XBs? I asked my mechanic
and he told me it is not as easy as the Element. Something
to do with it being connected to the engine block?

Thinking about putting a cage on it? Or getting an alarm.
But not sure if either will really do anything.

First of all, I'm sorry the thieving son's of ******* stole it- catalytic converters have expensive metals in them- I sold my wrecked 09 xB and they offered me $40 because the cat wasn't original. With the cat $500. There are plenty of catalytic converter plates to cover & protect it. I've only heard of your issue with Hondas- anything Honda is always in demand for parts. xBs? Idk mine sits outside too and they haven't touched mine- & I live in Chicago. Best bet is to get the shield 🛡 for both cars and be fully insured. My 2 cents....

Seems like a non factory cat is part of the answer.....there was no way i was gonna toss $2000 at a new cat for my tacoma when it failed. i bought a $300 bosal catted bolt in midpipe instead. my xb sits outside too but wondered if it even had the stuff in the cat that people are thieving for. it also sits much lower than my truck or rav4 but those live in garage.

my mazda protege5 is lowered and has a magnaflow high flow catted midpipe so that is not oem either......and the sawzall won't even fit underneath so good luck on even thinking about that one.....also a garage ornament.

if somethin can or does happen to the xb it won't get oem back on it either.

I've almost never heard of crooks jacking xB's although I'm sure it happens to all cars in a sense.

If I was a thief running cats, I'd not even look at an xB unless the guys you're selling to gave you a shopping list. Because theft of cats is so rampant, the reputable places that buy cats trace the ownership of them, making sure it's not stolen. Any black market runs off supply and demand, and most of the demand is for the parts off the latest vehicle to drop, just like any other chop shop. Until reports of xBs getting chopped in mass occurs, I'm not that scared.

Yes he is correct. Too many other parts in the way.

Hi. New to the forum and from the UK with a Toyota bB. We've just had our cat stolen from a hospital car park! Thieves have targetted the car park recently with 4 incidents in the last 6 weeks. They simply jack up the car, rip through the pipes with an electric cutter and are off within a minute. I've struggled to find parts for the xB/bB in the UK, but when I do find a solution, will be looking to have a protection plate fabricated to reduce the chances of future theft. The car sticks right out in the UK since there are so few of them, it'll be an instant go to target once my wife starts driving it to work again.

I'm really interested to see if there is an off-the-shelf xB/bB gen 1 solution I could import to the UK.

it should be treated like stealing a horse in the old days
I would camera it if I could?
motion detector could at least alert you as to when they are there

Certainly fabricating some sort of protection is on my list (albeit not something that'll cause harm, but perhaps give off fumes and gum up a saw blade whilst making it more difficult). I've also got a motion sensitive dash cam on order, a motion-sensitive alarm and some window warning stickers. I'm looking into custom exhaust options at the moment since Toyota UK wanted nearly £1k just to import the exhaust parts (which I think are just made up of UK spec Toyota parts from different vehicles anyway). Painting the cat and marking in with the vin seems sensible as well.

Hit up ebay and get a bolt in cat pipe that is not oem therefore no precious metals and hopefully no more issues. I replaced the oem on my tacoma with a borla bolt in cat pipe for $360 shipped brand new. My cat used it's 9 lives and was dead. Left it by the curb for the trash man. I looked and walker, magnaflow and several others make the same thing for xBs....of course things are higher than $350 but still nowhere near what oem one costs.

......an alarm with it's own separate power source to taze anyone messin with your vehicle would be really great.......and entertaining
