Auto tranny issues, neutral kick out

Picked up a envy green xb back in a box

Issue is p0500 vss ect turbine whatever is on and brake light stays on been reading I think I have those figured out

Biggest issue, driving come to a stop and take off tranny kicks into life a neutral and revs. So I shift it to neutral and then back to drive and it drives good until a stop.

If I manually down shift to 2 and L at a stop and take off in L it don't do it.

Left side sounds like wheel bearing bad, but if you sit and shift from drive to neutral sitting still it sounds like a throw out bearing but it's a automatic

I know from reading vss can cause shifting issues, or is it a bad bearing on the tranny or is it bad torque converter

Cannot find a issue like this after searching Google for a while, forgot I had a club xb account so figured I'd log in and see.

That's an odd issue for the 1st gen. Maybe someone with transmission background will chime in. Has it ever been serviced before?

RS 2.0 #923
RS 7.0 #528
Just another Wonderful day in Paradise, now watch some SOB try to ruin it.

Sorry

Yea the tranny fluid I was told from po he had his mechanic change it.

Well after checking it the fluid was 2" over filled and a more of a darker red def not recently changed.

So I was going to change it and do the vss or turbine whatever they call it and see if that works.

Just draining fluid out helped it some but still kicks out

I come from ase mechanic family and worked on mostly honda/ acura for some time but non auto and have had 3 1g xb's. Ive spent numerous nights googling anything I can om this but cannot for the life of me find anyone with a neutral drop out issue.

My friend has a bunch of scions mostly xb's but he had one he claimed done this and adjusted the shifter cable, don't see much of a way to adjust it at the tranny. I'm not living near him now so can't justy have him help me.

Have next oi nothing in this envy, would like to keep it at that but found a 123k mileage tranny on car part that's local for $125 but I don't think the tranny is the issue. I drive it 15 miles home just had the issue at stop lights and had to kick it in neutral and back to drive quick

Thx for any help

I didn't think there was an adjustment to the cable either. Would have to look when I get a chance.

Yea I don't see any, bought another tranny low mileage with 6 month warranty. Was 125 figure if i find out my issue and its something else I'll at least have a spare tranny.

Put new vss in speedo works now, still need to drain refill tranny see if that will help anything.

Use Toyota specified tranny fluid, man that's a steal for your tranny, wow.

Yea had 121k on it and was at local scrapyard, figured 6 month warranty was nice to. Got next to nothing in the car figured what's 125 hurt.

Called today they have free check up at local transmission shop I'll take it next week let them look at it quick. 1 car garage at the house and cold as crap isn't fun trying to work on the box, guess if my tool box wasn't as big as the wall I'd have more room.

Well that was fun getting back in without the k frame dropped, got it in and few bolts in it for now. Hopefully I'll wrap it up later tonight after work.

Yeah I wrapped it up last night and had wheels to throw back on today. Runs shifts good.

Needs a driver's wheel bearing and donut gasket but I couldn't get the spring bolts off even with impact so I'll take it to the exhaust shop let them throw one on.

Thx

Now I've noticed the front wheels are leaning in like bad camber. I measured from ground to center of lip on fender its 25.5" and on stock springs.

Looks low. Kinda lost what made the wheels lean just from being on jack stands.

They had 1 different skinny bolt and nut on the strut i'm wondering if that has anything to do with it. Instead of the 2 thicker bolts. Got 2 from the scrap yard today guess I'll find out
