Need help to make a fast toaster

Hey guys I have an 05 scion xb and as you know they can be a little slow. I absolutely love the car but I want her to have more power. The only thing I've is exterior work. Neon, grills, wheel, ect. But now I want her to be as fast as it is sexy. I want to keep the original motor but I don't know what parts I need to make it fast. So a list of performance parts would be great! Thanks

Getting power out of the first gen. is tough. You can do bolt-ons for pretty cheap.

-air intake
-header
-full exhaust
-aluminum crank pulley

You could get a turbo kit or supercharger but it will cost more than simple bolt-ons.

Losing weight is always great for performance. Carbon fiber hood and hatch would help.

Re: Need help to make a fast toaster

Your best bet is to do some research I the yaris forums, not much has been attempted with the 1nz motor here. With a claimed 105 stock hp and guys getting really excited to get to 130 n/a after a bunch of one-off custom work, it's hard for most to justify putting any effort into the mill.

You can always trade up to the XB2, bigger motor but to me not worth the expense either !!!! Its something that we all knew when we bought our Gen 1 boxes !!!

You can always change the air box out for a short or long air filter !!! It will help a small amount but... When you flat out nail it. it will sound like your really sucking air big time !!!!

Re: Need help to make a fast toaster

For NA and relatively affordable, try the 1zz throttle body (disputed gains) and a tune. A guy from Yarisworld tuned his 1st gen Yaris with a Power Enterprise Camcon and picked up a fair amount of power. See this discussion: Camcon VVTi Cam Timing Controller Thoughts? - Toyota Yaris Forums - Ultimate Yaris Enthusiast Site. Relatively affordable ($150-350, depending if new or used), downside is the cost of tuning. Power Enterprise has settings on their website, but it is for stock cars. Since you have several bolt-ons, it would be optimal to tune on a dyno. You would need several runs however, playing around with cam timing and fuel. Other than that things get more pricey like cams from JUN or high compression pistons. Or you can just save and go FI. That would be my preference.

Re: Need help to make a fast toaster

Drive your Scion onto the back of a trailer pulled by 75+ psi turbo diesel. A turbo looks like the only way for power at a reasonable price. But still won't be fast.

Re: Need help to make a fast toaster

Another option you have is to wait for used supercharger/turbo setups to go on sale. Dollar for dollar, forced induction just makes sense.

Re: Need help to make a fast toaster

Forced induction is the answer and the selection is very limited now. Check the classified section here for kits that haven't sold.

I am sure this is a joke, but taking out a $5000 loan for adding forced induction to a $5000 (on a good day) car is absolute insanity. If you don't have the expendable income to pay cash for modifications, you can't afford the modifications.

It's not a joke at all. $10000 for a car and mods is still less than almost any newer car. Personal loan on 5k is about $170-$180 a month.

People pay $18,000 for Velosters and $24,000 for GTI's, I think both are those are insane.

I agree on those points, though I personally am a cheapskate and do enjoy assuming debt. As for the OP, if he is still following this, make a budget, set goals, and be aware that it is very unlikely that you will get back what you put into your xB. For now, just enjoy what you got, however slow it is.

Someone gets it.

And if you HAVE to put something on a credit card or any other line of credit, you can't actually afford it. Choosing to do so is a different conversation entirely.

If you've got the disposable income to put 100%+ of cars value in custom parts on the car, more power to you! That is likely the case with my own car.
