Engine Bay plastic smashed?

The plastic in the engine bay has been like this since I got it, I've been wondering what would cause this? Its right above each strut. Would it possibly be from bad struts or strut mounts? I replaced the struts last summer and they are horrible again. Is this somehow connected? They are AST not sure how reliable they are but they have lasted less than a year for me.

I plan on replacing the Struts and shocks with koni yellows and new monroe strut mounts also swapping stock springs for Megan racing lowering springs.

Also, what is this plastic piece called and how difficult is it to replace?

Looks like it was given the hammer mod, to access the strut bolts. It's pretty simple to remove, if you need to replace the struts or add a strut bar. I assume you are not the original owner, looks like that previous owner was impatient.

You need to pull the wipers and wiper motor to get it out, only takes a few minutes. Be careful not to over torque the bolts for the wiper motor, they are very weak. I snapped two out of the three, luckily I found some in my jar of bolts that fit.

2005 TCM / Koni / H&R / Hotchkis / Enkei 92's / Injen / Focal / Pioneer.

Tried to keep it stock but everything keeps breaking, could of bought a new car by now.

+1

Prior strut replacement involved a pry bar or BFH, and a healthy dose of impatience. You can access those nuts with a box-end wrench, so it was completely unnecessary.

The FSM calls the part the "Cowl Top Ventilator Louver," and there are both right and left parts. Each one is held on by 4 clips that you can see, and 5 claws under the top edge. Removing the wiper arms is necessary before removing these. The wiper motor is underneath the one on the driver's side.

Suit the action to the word, the word to the action.

New plastic parts or salvage? If new, how much did they cost?

I got it used off of eBay. Its called a windshield Cowl. It was listed for $75 with free shipping or best offer, I offered $50 and they accepted. I used a little tire shine on it and it looks brand new even after a couple weeks in the rain!

I would post a picture but I keep getting a 'not a valid image error' or doesn't show I added anything. I tried all of the correct file types and under 298kb?
