Not so new member.

Well, I'm not new, but I've been silent on this site for about a decade. I lurk from time to time, but usually don't post or reply.

I still own my original 06.5 Salsa Red xB. Parts come, parts go. She's lead a hard life. And she was in pretty rough shape until recently.

Use to be a show car, but those days were behind her, most of the clear coat was gone, bumpers were cracked barely hanging on, front and rear. And the fenders were minorly mangled from air suspension.

Many years ago I turbo'ed my box. Lasted 5,000 miles and blew up. I dropped in a N/A xA engine with only 15,000 miles on it. Too scared to try boosting it again. Been running strong ever sense. But the itch to boost has been coming back as of late. Might buy another block and put forged pistons and rods in it and give it a go again. Until recently money has been hard to come by. So my box fell into a state of disrepair. Runs fine. But she really looked poor. But over the last year I've been fixing her up and I'll be ready to post pics of her new look as soon as I can afford new tires for a set of wheels I've been waiting to mount for probably 10 months now. Here's a few pictures of her from years ago.

Re: Not so new member.

And here are some more recent pictures of my car. Since these were taken, she has been painted. And the place that did the paint job painted it the wrong color, which I'm rather mad about, but I think I can live with what they did to my box. I intend to do some matte black vinyl on the sides similar to how it was before, but the design will be completely different.

I have pictures of its current state, but since I still haven't gotten my new wheels put on, I'm withholding them for now. I'll save them for a build thread.

WOW, I remember your box years ago but happy that she is still going !!! My need for speed went away a long time ago when i got my box and she is still going strong but I know that cancer will kill her !! I will drive her till she dies, I die or we both dies together !!! A few of us are still here but getting smaller every year and good luck with your future ideals for your box !! Ever thought about doing the dip thing ????

Re: Not so new member.

No. I'm not really a fan of dips with the exception of black. And living in Florida, I don't really want to drive an all black car with a sunroof. It's hot enough as it is. And I fell in love with a Mazda red and wanted to repaint my car that color. 41V is the color code, it's a factory, candy apple red. I paid 3,500 for a shop to paint it, and what I got was not candy apple red. More like Krylon spray paint red. I'm going to see if I can wetsand it and make it look half decent. The paint is a ripply mess, very little reflection to it. Paint has no depth (like candy apple) to it at all. It looks like the brightest red you've ever seen. I think I can work with it, but I'm gonna need to cover some of it up with black vinyl to make it reasonable.

Re: Not so new member.

Great to see your xB getting the love and attention. The desire for making mods only lay dormant for a period of time; they never completely go away. Judging by her initial glory she will look beautiful again. Looking forward to more pictures.

Re: Not so new member.

Well if you'd really like to see what she looks like now, I have a video showing it on my youtube channel that I recorded today after I switch my air intake. I recorded it to get audio of the exhaust but you get to see the car too at the beginning. She's quite a bit louder than the video makes her seem.

She's not finished. Still need to drop it, get my new wheels put on, and then I have vinyl to cut and lay. And there's still interior work to do. But you'll get an idea of where she's at right now.

Re: Not so new member.

The duals are fantastic in both sight and sound! They are tight and aggressive when driving; then a smooth and mellow tone when idling. The xB is also bold and clean looking. What are you planning in vinyl?

Re: Not so new member.

I intend to lay a carbon fiber racing stripe across the hood, roof, wing, and trunk very much like the first picture.
(I have a Seibon scooped carbon fiber hood and I'm debating on a trunk lid to match. Might just pick up a trunk lid at the junkyard and carbon fiber wrap it. $1200 vs $250)
The sides: Well I'm going to do stripes similar to the second picture below. Matte black vinyl. And a strip running forwards right above the side skirts.
I'm still undecided but I will likely make this a mild Itasha wrap. Itasha being an anime themed wrap. I am thinking of taking the girl pictured below, converting it into a 1 bit image of black and white and using that as a stencil to do a gloss black silhouette of the girl over top of the matte black vinyl. Probably difficult to understand what I'm going for, 4th picture for reference, but it would be gloss black on matte black on red, rather than white on black on red. I don't want it to be obvious at first glance. But visible once you really look at it.

Also, the girl closen is "Toyota bB". Who knew the Toyota bB had an Anime Mascot? She's not official, she was from a japanese only mobile phone game. But the closest thing to an actual anime mascot as I could find. The game servers were taken down years ago, but the website and wiki page is still available.

bB - ??????????????????

Re: Not so new member.

Looking forward to seeing the graphics. I did not know about the bB anime character. I do remember the Scion Urban Legends Comix Series which had a Scion anime character. Met the corporate person representing the character at the 2005 Scion Exposed in Dallas. Picture attached.

Pretty neat. Hadn't heard of that and Google isn't giving me any relevant search results for it.

What front lip is that? It looks interesting but I can't quite place it.

(Not a dude.)

Have you heard of our Lord and Savior Plasti-Dip?

Re: Not so new member.

It's a veilside body kit. Front and rear bumpers and side skirts.

I picked it because I wanted a body kit that'd still give me access to my hidden hitch. The center piece (wing?) in the rear comes off so I can mount my hitch tongue. It's also nice to have a kit that's pretty rare. Unlike the fabulous body kit that everyone seems to pick up.
