ratboxx from the PNW

So, it was recommended that I start a build thread.
I have yet to decide where I am going with this car, considering I bought it about 2 weeks ago to save on fuel by not driving the TJ around all day.

First things on the list are to get rid of those awful door panels, the pink interior glow, and figure out what on earth I am going to do with that paint.

Lets see how this goes.

Also, be warned. It ain't pretty.

Couple more pictures for your viewing globs. Can't figure out how to post more than 5 at a whack.

Re: ratboxx from the PNW

Def looks like you have your work cut out for you. Can't tell if previous owner had a theme in mind or if it was just aimlessness. Has me confused. Or they may have started down a path, but life and finances dictated otherwise. Like an RS2 XB I saw in Knoxville few months age. Looked totally ragged out.

Ago not age, dang auto correct.

Re: ratboxx from the PNW

I honestly have no idea on what the previous owner's plan was. There was pink zebra print everywhere, including the frame for the number plate. I would agree, work is cut out for me especially with that paint. Still scratching my noggin on that one.

Here are a couple daylight images. And yes, the Jesus fish or what is remaining of it, has been spray painted over.

Re: ratboxx from the PNW

Alrighty, so I got to get a little bit more work done to the turd this weekend. Between wedding planning and all the other stuff that goes along with life, I didn't get as much done as I wanted.

Anyway, got a little bit of work done to the hood. Needed a bit of heavy sanding done in some areas, I'm not sure what was under that paint. Also, looks like whoever assaulted this car before me didn't take out the washer nozzles to paint it the first time, as you can chuckle at with the picture. I need to sand it down a smidge more to make it smooth, or more smooth. I am thinking about scrapping the flat black and going with a satin black, as well. I'm not sure how noticeable the difference is, or lack there of. But, from the pictures on the good ol' interwebz, I think that I am leaning on satin black. So, here are a couple pictures of what happened to the hood. It went ok for my first try, I think.

Re: ratboxx from the PNW

Here is another quick shot of the hood, as well as a daylight shot...granted it rained overnight. I don't know how to rotate the image when it uploads...it is the correct way until I upload it to the site. Sorry. Next are the stupid door panels. You can see how bright the pink us under where the handle was. Also, the new fabric for the doors.

I'm really excited for you! It'll be a bunch of sand and paint, but if it looks anything like how you fixed the hood, I'm looking forward to the progress.

Thanks! I'm looking forward to working the rest of the car. Definitely learning as I go with this, so I am open to all advice and criticism. Icarus, I am located about 15 miles outside of Spokane, WA. And all the pink is going in the trash, whoever had it before me decided it would be a great idea.

Damn I haven't heard of anyone being from the Spokane area in a long time. That's actually where I was born and raised but needed warmer weather

If you are using a rattle can aerosol you may want to take a look here...

Re: ratboxx from the PNW

I am using rattle can for this, as it is by far less expensive than even taking it to tape and go Maaco. I was looking at the spray can handle, as that is more in my price range. $30 a can is a bit steep for me with a wedding in July... I might go that route when all is said and done and I have some of the list done for the Jeep. Razr, it isn't a bad little town. I'm actually from the East side of the country. Granted I have been in Spokane for a long time now. It does seem rather unfortunate, doesn't look like much of the community here is located near me, but on the other side of the mountains.

The cheaper way is to buy a bag of fan spray nozzles that will fit the can you use. It will lay the paint more even, so down the line you won't have zebra stripes. Normal spray-bomb nozzles work really good for mailboxes, but to get a finish on a car, they need help.
Good luck and have fun!

Oh, and by the way, I like Spokane, actually thought about moving there at one time.

Re: ratboxx from the PNW

Thanks for the tip! i picked up a couple of these spray nozzle handle things at the Walfart in town. We will see how they work. Progress has been slow, really slow. The weather has been pretty lame so haven't been able to paint. I have the door panels laying in my office, but haven't done much with them other than cut the back out. I hope to get them finished this weekend and throw up some pictures. Also did some sanding on the driver side roof area by the rear door, had a good ding that needs to be covered up. Also looks like I am needing to replace the alternator belt, that thing is starting to squeal like a big when the defroster is on, especially in the morning. I'll toss some pictures up this weekend when there is some progress worth showing.

I'm sure there will be, I haven't decided the exact road this gonna be heading down. More or less, just winging it.
Anyway, some pictures from the recent progress..been slow going. This whole having responsibilities thing is never fun.
Also, I discovered a not so bright choice of pattern to use with door panels, at least with me throwing them on there. And there is a lot of residue left on the plastics from the previous owner not ripping the cards out/taping anything if they didn't rip them out.
