Re: What did you do to your xb today??

I installed a new double-din Android tablet style head unit in my xB today. It fits good, but I'll have to trim the bezels I ordered to achieve the perfect fit. I love having Google maps on a large and easy to read screen, but what I love most is the Torque app that allows me to monitor everything that the obd2 sensors can read.

And on a plus, since resetting my ECU when I pulled the battery for the head unit install, I've gone from about 32 mpg combined up to 39 mpg average. The car has gotten smoother when idling with a/c too!

Installed front and rear KBD polyurethane lip kit as well as a new OEM rear bumper. Afterwards I restored the headlights with a Gator drill kit.

Dipping is next week!

Don't remember ever seeing that lip kit before. May I ask where you found it?

Is that on the OEM rear bumper? Looks pretty good! I was debating on that lip to replace the missing rear piece for a while.

Swapped the smoldered OEM bushings for new polyurethane ones. Ride is much improved!

Re: What did you do to your xb today??

Addressing a bunch of questions:
  • KBD lip kit is from KBD here: Scion XB 2004-2007 Premier Style 4 Piece Polyurethane Full Body Kit
  • I'm running stock side skirts, stock bumpers, and the KBD front/rear lips.
  • The rear bumper is black because it's a replacement OEM from Toyota because my old one was cracked from traveling over ice.
  • This lip kit is hella rugged and a lot sturdier than the OEM. It's polyurethane, which flexes a TON and moves easily unlike fiberglass, which is too brittle to bend and just cracks instead. It hangs maybe an inch lower in front and rear so it's not a big deal. Fitment is good on the back, the front had to be trimmed at the sides to line up with the mounting points.
  • The KBD kit does not come with mounting hardware. Get yourself a bunch of hex bolts and locking nuts, zip ties, whatever. Removing plastic push rivets sucks ass.
  • Yes the rear is scuffed from being slid around a concrete garage floor. It came nice and pretty - I'm the one who scuffed it while working on it. Because I do dip instead of paint I don't give a **** about surface scuffs lol.

I'm at nearly 109k now! Pretty damn good for a 2005. I got it in 2011 @ 42k miles after my first one (a 2006.5) was totaled from another driver crushing it. I absolutely adore this vehicle and can't imagine driving anything else as my daily for so long. Now that I have a large garage (900 sqft!) I can get more toys and a project vehicle, but the xB will always have a very special place in my heart. I'm never giving it up.

Re: What did you do to your xb today??

Made some changes, and a repair, to the daughter's xB this week.

Removed the new JDM TYC headlamps I installed last summer; was not pleased with their light patterns.
What did you do to your xb today??-1.-tyc-headlamps.jpg

Put in a new pair of stock headlamps. Test fit the newly painted FFF modified to USDM headlamp ends by Sammi (se-r_dad). Thanks Sammi for the impressive morphing of the JDM headlamp FFF to fit USDM.
What did you do to your xb today??-2.-stock-headlamps-fff-test-fit.jpg

Replaced the inboard short rubber hood height adjusters with a set of the longer outboard rubber adjusters to slightly raise the hood for improved FFF alignment.
What did you do to your xb today??-3.-stock-headlamp%3B-taller-hood-adjusters.jpg

Replaced the stock headlamp bulbs with LEDs. Replaced the stock 1157A bulbs with LED 1157As.

Replaced the driver's side power folding mirror motor. A micro switch broke and the power circuit would not shut off after folding; resulting in the gear covering breaking some tabs.

Re: What did you do to your xb today??

I rotated my tires over the weekend and raised up the front coils a bit. I think they settled a bit and now it kept rubbing where it wasn’t at first. No biggie, now its all good. Also cleaned out the little IAC valve thing on the throttle body with some intake cleaner. Seems a little better, although I will do get the rough idle randomly when the fan kicks on while AC is on, though not as rough anymore.

Probably going to need new tires by the end of the year, if not beginning of next.

Re: What did you do to your xb today??

Great work!

I should remember, but do not; do you have adjustable coil-overs, or did you use an insert to lift the coils? Also, when I had my 18's with 215/45 tires, I used a flat peen hammer to lower the fender well spots which rubbed. The metal there is malleable and will need touchup painting afterwards.

Post some pictures.

I have adjustable coilovers from Raceland. I figured instead of buying OEM shocks and struts, for a few extra bucks get adjustable coilovers. They do ride a little stiffer but thats fine with me for now.

I had to use a heat gun/bat combo on the pass rear fender. It was the only one rubbing on bumps vs both rears even though they were at the same height, so thats fine now. Besides the front was lower than the rear, so now its pretty even.

I’ll try to snap some pictures soon, I need to wash it too but this friggin heat (100°+) is brutal now that my tree shade is gone thanks to a wet and windy Mother Nature.

I will soonish. I normally go to the tire store I worked at before since they usually give me a pretty good deal, but it never hurts to look around. Plus, I do want to swap my wheels to maybe a 16” wheel for more comfort/cushion so maybe that can be an option. My sister (previous owner) banged up the rims somethin’ fierce, so its a little bumpy
