HID Headlights, No High Beams

I purchased my 2004 xB used, and it has several mods that are not working. I have worked out a few problems, but not this one.

The High Beams do not work, whether I "flash" the lights by pulling towards myself with the stalk, or if I push away to keep the high beams on. In either case the the dash indicator for high beams lights, but outside the car the lights go dark. The low beams always work.

I just wasted $99 buying a replacement Sylvania Bulb, so I don't think the bulbs are the issue. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Most HID kits are single beam meaning they only work for low beam.

The nicer kits out there are dual beam but they cost more and a lot of people just don't purchase them.

Unhappy Re: HID Headlights, No High Beams

Thanks for your reply, I'll try to get some research done on the model and type to see if my unit has high beam support.

If you take a picture of the bulb itself we would be able to tell easily.

Re: HID Headlights, No High Beams

The low beams have a separate fuse? Hmm...I'll check the manual and the fuse and post back.

My HIDs have the following information, and I have included 2 pix with the bulb and the HID unit. The guys at Autozone didn't know at all when

Vorschaltgerat
Xenon-Licht 12v
5dv 007760-41
D2S DSR 2000h

Thanks, guys!

Those are single beam bulbs. But what housings are you running them in? Stock housings are H4, I'm kinda lost on this one at the moment

Re: HID Headlights, No High Beams

So I checked fuses 9 and 10, which are the Left and Right Headlights, according to the manual. Both are good, but #10 has a 20 Amp fuse in it. I'll buy some spares and replace that with a #20.

I think the housings are stock, but I'll have to research what the stock ones looks like to sure. I'm going to resign myself to knowing that these HIDs don't support high beams until I find a manual on the product.

Thanks again, The_Doctor, schwartz329, and Zman.

I meant to say I would replace the 20A fuse with a 10A fuse.

Re: HID Headlights, No High Beams

There are little adapter plates to run D2S bulbs in place of H4's. Probably has that put into the headlight sockets.

Re: HID Headlights, No High Beams

I know it's old but I don't see the resolution.

I've done a few retrofits on my box and I may be able to help you out. With HID, like what you pictured, if you want high beams you will need to retrofit a bixenon projector. This will allow the same bulb to do both. There is a mechanical cut off on the projector that usually drops when the high beam is activated, thus allowing full light to shine as opposed to just half.
