Re: Anyone do retro fits?

Josh, if you post pics during your retrofit to let us see where you're at on this thread, we can provide commentary to help you on your retrofit as well if you would like.

here are some sample pics for the Morimoto Mini retrofit. This is the H7 plate but its the same concept for H4 plate:

Re: Anyone do retro fits?

I did a retrofit in my OEM heads. They have CCFL halos, multi color Led backlight.

I used the retrosolutions.com. The h4 kit is the one you want. Here's the link: http://www.retrosolutionsllc.com/ser...BIXENON/Detail
The plus sides of these lights are:

ZERO cutting of the housing
Plug and play harness
Great quality product and customer service
Would take one day to do from start to finish

Here's some pics:

Ryan if you go with the retro fit source, the H4 backplate will align with your stock adjusters. Bamboo's retrofit looks great too but I don't know much about their kit.

It depends on which JDM heads you will use. The lense on the bB heads will diffuse the cutoff and I'm not too sure if that would be a good thing. If you get the HID bB heads that might be a different story, but then again if I dropped $1000 for legit heads I wouldn't mess with them

You might need to dremel/cut your shroud that goes around the projector since some won't perfectly fit. No cutting required on the stock heads.

Re: Anyone do retro fits?

I don't have the nice 1000 dollar JDMs lol I guess I can try it, and if its a no go, I can always try something else. I've got a few sets of USDM heads as well I can always use, just try something maybe a little out there, who knows lol. At any rate I will post pics when I get it finished!

Yeah I'm definitely thinking about this in the future. Next person who does the kit should do a write up as well.

Re: Anyone do retro fits?

You can do them in JDM heads no problem. In fact, it would be no different than xB ones. While the JDM does cause different refraction if you are using the headlight housing, the project sends the light directly out and won't have that issue. You will be good to do it with JDM.

As for write-up, I am half-way through my write-up if you want to see what I am going through on mine. I recommend checking out HIDPlanet and TRS for parts/ideas too. I decided against the plug and play kit for cost mainly, and for originality.

Re: Anyone do retro fits?

Hey guys,

A lot of you have PM'd me to ask some questions about the retrosolutions kit.

I would first like to iterate that I am affiliated in no way to that site except as a satisfied customer.

Here are some answers for you:

I am very happy with the kit. The sealant provided is only for the outer edge of your lens, you don't use it to seal around the projector or anything like that cause the projector sits in the housing where the bulb would be, filling the space. I used only a small amount of the sealant when putting my lens back together because there was plenty OE silicone/tar in there for a watertight seal.

The projector itself sits right into where the bulb would be. a portion sticks through to the outside, where you would attach the alignment ring (to make sure it stay right side up as you tighten) and a locking washer and nut. After that, I would wire it up and make sure your cutoff is where you want it (the alignment ring allows for 1-2 degrees of play, so if you decide to skip this step [i did] you cutoff will be very close to where it should be anyway). seal your lens back on, put the OEM dust cover back on the rear of the light and you're set. To make absolutely sure no condensation or dirt would come back through the dust shield, i made a cone of wrap and electrical tape to protect that area.

Its very easy, light output is great. light adjustment is done from the stock location because the projector is connected to the reflector that moves. LED backlight is cool, but you don't need to put it in or wire it up if you don't want to. Halos are a nice touch too, they come on with the parking lights.

I chose these because I only had one set of headlights (the ones on my car ) which is my daily as well. So i needed to be able to do the whole process in one weekend total.

When you buy the kit, they send you some links to of instructions. Here are the ones they gave me. I don't think they'll care if I share, especially since you are interested in them.

Projector Installation Guide 1
Projector Installation Guide 2
HID instructions

They aren't car specific, so there is a little bit of difference, but not too difficult to figure out or anything. There is no info on the LED backlight, so that took a little figuring out, but overall, again not a big deal. And please keep in mind, I've never done a projector retrofit before or HID install before so I was going in blind with some general know how of car modification (unscrew things, screw them back on) and basic stereo electrical knowledge (red goes to red, etc).

Best of luck if you choose this kit. I'm very satisfied with it as well as retrosolutions customer service (over tightened my locking nut and snapped it. contacted them and got a new one the next day[i had to pay for the overnight shipping though, seeing as i broke it and needed it asap, which IMO is fair])

Hope this helps all of you aspiring to retrofit! Good luck

Rob
