DIY: GEN1 Hatch garnish stud repair.

Common problem with the end studs pulling out of the rear hatch garnish. Sometimes the boss gets cracked too, so here are few pics showing a reliable fix:



Snap in wire grommet from hardware store. It's 1/2" OD and fits tight over the boss:



Will need some epoxy:



Make a small hole at the bottom of the boss:



Glue the grommet and make sure the top is flush with the boss:



Get epoxy on the stud and push it in. It's gonna be a very tight fit- using a deep socket helps. You can hold the garnish with your knees and carefully hammer the stud in:





Will look like this when all done:
