Fuel Injector Service

What is done on this service (60,000 miles?)

I'd like to do the 60k myself, but am unsure about the "optional extra" Fuel injector service.

Also, what are the recommendations for spark plugs? oem or a replacement?

Re: Fuel Injector Service

It's called Fuel Injection Service. Not in the schedule, but many places try selling it. It's supposed to clean the system and sometimes it can make things better.

Re: Fuel Injector Service

A couple years ago I paid Wal-Mart $69 to clean the injection system on my 2001 Explorer it had around 95k miles at the time. I assumed at the least it would improve mileage.... It did nothing for mileage, power, acceleration, etc. Basically everything they said would improve didn't. In my opinion it is a waste of money and the two hours it took for them to do it.

Re: Fuel Injector Service

a real auto shops injection cleaning is worth if u have alot of miles, run cheap gas, or never run injector cleaner.

again a real shop will hook into the fuel line and bascically force clean the system with a chemical

what walmart tire and lube does ( i used to work there years ago) is dump injector cleaner in ur car then spray carb cleaner down ur intake, sometime resulting in cel codes and having to be reset, thats it. and u can do that urself

True. Most shops just do top engine cleaning. May as well do a simple seafoam treatment.

Re: Fuel Injector Service

cool thanks!

I looked at the schedule I had, and it is dealer specific. I won't be wasting any money getting that done. Perhaps, I will throw some additive to the fuel for the hell of it, but I'll just stick to the oil/spark plug routine.

Any thoughts on Spark Plugs?

Re: Fuel Injector Service

At the Toyota dealership I work with we use a can of Toyota Fuel Injector cleaner. The cleaner is a pressurized can we hook straight to your fuel rail, and run your car until its empty. It literally runs just on the cleaner, so it goes straight to your injectors.

We also do a 3 part cleaning. One bottle goes in your gas tank, one bottle gets run through your engine through a vac source (like seafoam) and the last is a cleaner we do your throttle body with.

Do you do this only as preventative maint or does it also fix existing problems, like rough running, misfire codes, etc.?

Re: Fuel Injector Service

We recommend it at 30k, 60k, etc intervals as maintenance, but if someone came in that had never done it before, higher miles and had a slight hesitation or running rough we would rec it if there was nothing mechanically wrong (bad sensor, etc)

Re: Fuel Injector Service

I would bet the Toyota system is manufactured by 3M. Back in my dealership days they had a direct cleaning system like that. There's also a 3M tank additive avail at NAPA
