Re: clutch replacement?

Are you having trouble with the Clutch??????
My last Toyota product went 125,000 before clutch failure, it all depends on how you drive

do the 5th gear test. I can tell mine is going as well.

Basically put the car in fifth if it sputters then you have a good clutch, if your rolling free and clear then keep that friend because he might know what he's talking about. I'mn at 94k

Re: clutch replacement?

I'm looking into saving up and finally upgrading my clutch as soon as I get some other things done on the interior of the car and and just wondering what would be a good clutch to check into.

Re: clutch replacement?

honestly if you get the trd one you will prolly never have a problem again....the xb clutch isnt even ,ade to handle one more hp over stock but i agree if it isnt giving you any slipping i would just leave it til it goes...you can get a clutch for a pretty good deal no more than 200 bucks depending on what you are looking for but paying for it to be put in is costly unless you can do it yourself

SPEC Clutches & Flywheels: Auto Parts, Domestic, Import, Truck, Racing, Drifting :: Products

I use the Stage 2+ It works great, both on the streets and at the track, and I have no problem using it in L.A. traffic! =) I've driven all kinds of clutches and this is the only brand I like the most!

Re: clutch replacement?

Wookie - thanks for that info, that is the kind of info I have been looking for. I have a greddy turbo and I daily drive mine and some shops tell me to get a stage 1 or some tell me to get a stage 2, so i'm not sure what to get. also didn't know what manufacture to get either so thanks for the info.

your on a flat surface and stopped.

I'm sure you could make your clutch go for 200k miles if you live out in the middle of no where and barley change gears. I live in the city and all the stop/go traffic kills me.

Re: clutch replacement?

Stop the car. Set the parking brake hard so the car won't move at all.

Put the tranny in 5th. Engage the clutch. If the engine continues to run, the clutch is slipping and is bad. If the engine stalls, the clutch is working as it should.

One test is enough.

Cheers,
md

Re: clutch replacement?

I'm at 156,000 miles and had to finally replace my clutch. I live in Atlanta so I feel I got a good life span out of it. I will say this clutch has been a pain in the rear to replace. You have to practically take everything but the engine out of the car, lol. But I did save myself about $500.

I just replaced mine, I'm at 95k miles. It cost $600, but feels like a brand new car.

Re: clutch replacement?

Exedy clutches seen too stiff at stage one, I've driven a few of my buddys Honda's and a few 240SX's with them and they feel stiffer than my SPEC Stage 2+, not to mention, My buddy with his MRS had an Exedy Stage 1, and a few Buddys with their Honda's had their Exedy's crap out on them.

Re: clutch replacement?

Why not just a factory clutch? I love the way my factory clutch feels. What are the specific characteristics of the aftermarket clutches that you like better?

Re: clutch replacement?

Factory clutches use a bushing onthe clutch disk whereas other companies use a spring.
