Re: Best Battery
I checked out the diehard platinum and I think I'm going to get it as soon as I get some extra money. My old battery from the dealership they gave me 4 months ago when I bought my xb is dyeing already.

Re: Best Battery
Watch the color of the case on Optima one is deep cycle, the other is starting.

Re: Best Battery
Doh, almost forgot, there's a charger called Ctek that works great for them. Reasonably priced too.

Re: Best Battery
I didnt know they had other models of yellow tops....
when I bought my yellow top, they recommended a red top for the xb (the red top is a perfect fit). but I wanted the better current draw the yellow top provides.
It looked the same when I bought it, but there is a difference. your stock harness WILL be able to reach, it'll just be a game of tug of war with your harness for a couple seconds....
if theres another model of yellow top, ask the people if you can try a couple of em to make sure it fits.....

Re: Best Battery
I notice you guys are all talking about switching to different batteries. Have you guys gone with also getting a high output alternator?
I'm looking to run 2 8" subs and a 1000watt Hifonics amp. plus, I'm planning on getting a Mac Mini computer installed eventually. I figured i'd start w/ the big 3 upgrade, but not sure what to do when it comes to battery, and I haven't found much clear info on updgrading the alternator.
Plus, i've been told by a few to focus on "wet" deep cycle. some even said that there some marine batteries i can look into... however, these guys are far from professionals so i don't necessarily trust their word.

Re: Best Battery
This is the most confused, misinformed thread I've ever read on Club xB. Twenty different people, all talking about the "best" battery, without defining what they need.
The guy who drives 15 miles of shake-your-fillings out washboard road needs a gel cell battery like an Optima yellow top, so he won't have lead plates to shake to pieces. The correct size for 1Gs is this, BTTW..
The parking lot stereo crowd might need deep cycle capability. The rest of you should look for a group 25 battery with high cold cranking amperage for $75, and use the $175 you didn't waste on a premium battery on more important things.

Amen brother! deep cycle over the expensive gel cell any day! how about for the thumper, just adding an additional battery (deep cell) as a "capacitor"?

Re: Best Battery
well, I will say, Optima batteries are very nice to have. they last much longer than other batteries, and the yellow top has nice perks even for a daily (giving you an open possibility of upping your sound system someday). and adding an additional deep cell batt is much better than a cap. Caps use all there stored energy EVERY time your sub hits, whereas a batt can provide solid power EVERY time....
I bought my yellow top when my stock batt died because I knew I not only wanted a reliable battery, but I also wanted to put a have some bump at some point.
but definitely, if you only want a good replacement for your stock batt, just get your average shelf batt...
but if your gonna upgrade at some point, might as well dish out the cash now. it'll be cheaper in the long run......

Re: Best Battery
i'm still feeling pretty noob at this. BestmpgxB, you kinda laid it out there i little better for me to understand.
I guess i'll just ask a direct question. what would be the battery/type for me to consider if i drive a daily average of 30 miles (10 street) and getting ready to install two subs pulling about 500watts? i wouldn't want my bump to kill my car so soon (and possibly an on-board computer later).

PCH, did you do a complete relocation of your battery, or is that an extra for sounds/electronics?

Re: Best Battery
sweet post there. I've got a some subs that i'm still setting up that are run the same way, building into the floor I'm going to put up a post when i'm done to share with everyone.
So it looks like Optima yellow is the way to go if you're running electronics like i am. My buddy wants me to go full montie w/ the blue (marine) but it seems unnecessary. I still have questions regarding if i'll need a high output alt or not. i've heard of people mention it here and there, but noone here seems to say anything about on clubxb regarding that. Just wanting to know if it's important when doing a battery upgrade and electronics mods.

I got a Duralast Gold for $90 and was running 4 Hid ballasts, two subs and it still started fine in 20 degree weather.

If you routinely draw your battery voltage down to 11.6 V, I think you should get a deep cycle battery. Otherwise, get a high CCA battery.

You can draw a charge for an extended period of time. And it takes a recharge better.
