Car problems with A/C on

Im not a big air conditioner user but lately it's been mid 90s in Ohio but when the air is on I feel like the car doesn't want to go. From a stop it bogs bad then takes off and while on the freeway I feel like no matter how hard I push the gas the car just can't get out of its own way. Help please, is this normal ?

Umm how bad is the bogging down? Does the car stall out? Mind you our cars have a 1.5L so when the a/c cycles on and off you will lose power and you can feel it. If it feels wrong to you get it checked out. A/c could be over charged which could cause the problems your having. Seen it lots of times

Its not an awful bog but its really noticeable. And I did recently charge my A/C and I over filled it and the compressor wouldn't kick on so I let the valve out to empty some and it was better so maybe its still over filled?

Re: Car problems with A/C on

Who overfilled it? You need to take it to the shop ASAP to recharge the system with the right amount of refrigerant because you will blow up your compressor if it's not running at proper pressure. Even though it has some kind of overpressure switch to protect it. Compressor replacement is more than $1K i believe.
Aren't you running custom exhaust? You may have lost some midrange torque so AC only makes it more noticeable.

Re: Car problems with A/C on

Yeah better run it to a shop and have them get the pressures right ASAP compressor it self is 650 to the customer not including labor freon and what ever else it needs. Obviously there is a leak if you had to top it up. They should identify it if its a decent shop and they should put the right charge into it the first time. Words of advise from a mechanic a/c systems you shouldn't mess with unless you don't have the right equipment.

Dont use the defroster until you get it fixed, the defroster uses the ac to help clear the glass
