Ladies and gentlemen, my name is Megan and I have a sticker commitment problem.
Now please don't laugh, or at least if you do let it be in a friendly manner. I bought my first car decal at my first car show over four years ago, and it has taken me until
today to actually put it on a vehicle. Yes, I have carried this token of automotive sentiment through four geographical relocations and two vehicles since and have never had the nerve to commit. What if I put it on crooked? What if I didn't like where it was placed? I've never seen another decal like this one ANYWHERE so what am I supposed to do if I accidentally ruin it?
Since getting my precious '06 xB this past summer, two other decals have come into my possession and the realization hit me that I just couldn't keep putting it off any longer.
Now I know putting stickers on a car isn't that big of a deal to a lot of xB owners, there are numerous threads dedicated solely to them. But to me there is a difference between putting on a few select images and completely covering every inch of a selected body panel. It's easier to place potentially hundreds of stickers on a panel to cover it up for that intended effect than it may be to select just one and try to figure out the best place to put it with the intention of it being there for a good period of time. Or perhaps that's just me.
In any case, I took the plunge today and placed my three on my xB, hands nearly shaking the whole time. Since I just washed it a few days ago, and I only put the adhesive on glass, a clean microfiber and some rubbing alcohol were all that was needed for prep. My roommate's corgi puppy was able to break up the tension by pulling his leash from the nail I had it hanging from and taking off in the opposite direction as fast as his stumpy little legs could carry him, so I was more than ready to get my stickers on so I could take him back inside.
I started with my most recent (and not-so-secretly coveted) sticker that was gifted to me by Dion (DTRAIN) just a few weeks ago. Making sure the bottom edge was placed correctly was my primary concern, so I adhered it in a rolling motion from bottom to top:

I'm not going to lie... I'm pretty dang proud to have received the Storm Trooper.
After that came Cliff's (bbzero) 2zero6 Factory decal. I hate that it took me almost 5 months to get it on. He tells me not to stress out about it because "it's just a sticker," but to me it's also advertising for someone I consider to be an amazing person. If I weren't such a commitment-phobe, I'd TOTALLY bomb some part of my xB with his logo alone.
Not the greatest shot, but I'll get some better ones when I'm out and about.
Last, but certainly not least, came the decal that I've carried around for four years. I don't know what else to say except that it is a symbol of what started it all for me.
The "Bubble Girl" I found at my first VW show back in 2007.
Does this mean I'm going to start snatching up stickers and just place them willy-nilly on my xB? Ummm, absolutely not. But I think it's a good start.
