Re: Fog Lights

Hmmm... Hard to tell from the picture. Almost looks like the inside of the housing is still gray in color. On the legit bB fogs the insides have a chrome/polished look.

I see what your saying. Very true then again the legit BB fogs are OEM correct?

Re: Fog Lights

You are correct. The bB fogs were an OEM option from Toyota. Still don't understand why they changed the inner housing to gray for the Scion line. Figure it would have been easier/cheaper to just give us the same ones used in Japan.

Yeah doesn't make sense. This is what Dtrain told me this morning as he said they mimic the BB style fog lights.

JDM bB OEM Foglights V.S. USDM xB OEM Foglights - Post Your Pics!
JDM had the whole inside housing chromed. USDM- top and bottom surfaces were not chromed. Not sure if there is any difference in size or the lens pattern.

I didn't know about HIDGUY a year and a half ago.
Those were the only ones I could find. Plus all you gotta do is move the relay below it to the location of the fogs, there's a link to it somewhere.

Re: Fog Lights

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but i'm having a problem with my foglights and I can't post a new topic yet.

I have a 2005 xB. I'm not sure if my fogs are standard or if they were put in afterwards. I bought my gen 1 pre-owned only a couple weeks ago and the seller didn't know since they weren't the original owners. But it looks like the fog lights are wired into the headlights, so I assumed they would come on when the headlights are turned on. But They didn't, and I don't have a switch either. I checked the fuse for the fogs too and its fine. I'd rather not have to put them on a switch if I don't have too. Thanks

Check if they have bulbs...seriously. check if the relay is in. Then look on the dash for a switch or trace all of the wires. If they don't have a switch, it will be illegal if they stay on with your high beams, depending on state laws.

Yup they have bulbs, i checked that too just in case. There's no switch at all for them. I don't believe its illegal in MA for your fog lights to be on with the daytime running lights/headlights. Might My old car was like that, but they shut off when the high beams were triggered to not blind people. haha

I tried tracing the wires and it goes to the fuse box along with the headlight wires. And I believe my relay is there I pushed down on all the fuses and relays to make sure they were in correctly. I'll have to check again to see whats up. Or bring it to my friend who knows car electrical issues.

Re: Fog Lights

You plugged the lights into the factory sockets? You used the factory switch wiring harness? Or have you overlooked one of those steps? If you've got a switch installed, check continuity through the switch, to the lights, etc.

Make sure you also installed the Fog fuse. And Headlights have to be on for the fogs to work.

Re: Fog Lights

I would check the power thru the wires if I had that tool

What do you mean by flip the wires

And that doesnt make sense to have the hwadlights on to have fogs on, and I tried with no luck

You should be able to hear the relay click when you turn the fog switch on.

When I was on my back plugging in my relay I thought I had it in more than once, but tiiwas hanging a couple of prongs off the edge of the wiring block towards the drivers side. It felt plugged in, but not all the terminals were making contact as they should. Maybe double check that.

Re: Fog Lights

Use a test light. Link: Basic auto electrics: Checking fuses, ground, and power on your Scion xB
You can check for power at the back of the relay, at the light sockets and everything in between.

It is a common misnomer to think that the fogs can't be used with extra light due to blinding traffic...the idea of fogs is to use a different wavelength of light(often yellow) to help penetrate the fog. If you are using highs in the fog, they only reflect and bounce light back at you the driver and thus make visibility worse.

No. Fog lights don't depend on different wavelengths to work. They don't reflect back because they're mounted and aimed lower. Here's a photo of my yellow fogs.
