Any of you guys ever put an aftermarket cruise control on your xb? If so, any feedbacks on it? Good investment? Bad investment?

I have the Rostra cruise control in mine, I installed it myself, took me a little over an hour from start to end. It's definitely worth it, really helps out on those long trips and easy to install.

Re: 04-07 Scion XB Aftermarket Cruise Control???

I also have the Rostra cruise control. Its the one Toyota dealers installed in the 1G xBs. Mine didn't work after installation in my '06.5. I was leaving on a month-long trip around the country, so I didn't have time to troubleshoot it. Rostra tech support found me a factory installer in Albuquerque who fixed it for $75 (problem was I tapped the wrong wire for the VSS).

Yeah I had the same problem, the instructions were not for the 06.5 but I found a write up on SL that showed the correct wire to tap into. I emailed Rostra about it but I don't know if they updated their instructions.

Re: 04-07 Scion XB Aftermarket Cruise Control???

I also recall seeing something on SL about Rostra's wrong wire diagram.

FWIW, the cruise control was well worth its cost on my cross-country vacation, and ever since.

I don't know which one I have, it was installed before I bought it, it has bugs; but, it gets the job done

I've checked into it before and it cost a pretty penny to have the dealership install it. So I just learned different positions to drive in.

If you can follow directions you can install a Rostra CC. I think the hardest and most time consuming part for me was putting in the clutch override switch, you have to screw it in behind the pedal and there is very little room so it took me about 10 mins of frustration before it went in.

Re: 04-07 Scion XB Aftermarket Cruise Control???

AS everyone else has stated the Rostra cruise control kit is the way to go, its what was offered from yoda. Its a pretty straight forward kit, except that out cars electrical anything under dash it a pain in the ass to work on, otherwise the fitment is great. My is on my 04 5spd.

Yes, we're all running Gen 1s. Should fit your bB following the instructions for the automatic transmission installation.

Re: 04-07 Scion XB Aftermarket Cruise Control???

I just bought my first Scion XB over the weekend and already want to add cruise control. I'm sure I will go with the brand name everyone is mentioning but I can't decide if I am confident enough to install this by myself.

On a level of say 1 to 5, how easy is the install? 5 being the easiest? Thanks for your feedback!

Re: 04-07 Scion XB Aftermarket Cruise Control???

I'd rate it a 3. I got the mechanical parts set up with no problems, and thought I had the electrical wring hooked up OK, too. But it didn't work, and I was leaving on a one-month cross-country trip, so I didn't have time to debug the problem.

Rostra technical support hooked me up with one of their approved installation shops in Albuquerque, and they got it working in an hour, for $75. Their tech support is pretty good, and the installation manual is thorough. My problem was I hooked up the wrong wire for the Vehicle Speed Sensor. The reason, I'm pretty sure, is that the wiring changed in post-December '05 xBs.

I got the Mr Cruise cruise control. I think it was $450 installed. It works well and I couldn't do long trips without it

Thanks for the feedback Bobb_Todd.. I'm leaning towards just paying someone to put it in to avoid ant headaches.

i just put a Rostra Cruise kit in my box a few weeks back. it was way eazy. there is only 3 wires you will need to tap into. one is under the driver side dash and the other 2 are under the glove box. everything else is easy. i took a few pics so if you need them prior to making a decision on paying someone to do it let me know. i would install it if you lived in my area. the kit cost me 240 ish and not worth paying someone 260 to install this. maybe a 100 bucks.

Wow that's pretty nice of you KraziMonkey to offer help with pics. I guess I'm afraid of crappy directions more than anything. I keep hearing about wire color coding being off in the instructions when dealing with an '06. But hell 3 wires... I think I could handle that. How can I get the pics from you of the install? I really appreciate that.
