The big question AWD

So i've searched nothing came up on this but for the Gen 2's which is ridiculous because the gen 2 and rumion are not as similar as the gen 1's and the NCP35.
So lets talk about it.

I really want to see if its possible to take the drivetrain from a ncp35 and swap it onto our 1nzfe and make it work. This way our cars might have a little more hook up and fun.

I know the NCP35 has a 1.3 liter motor so that may be a concern as well as the rear suspension and possibly the whole rear floor pan might be different but if someone has good connects to japan and could make this happen better believe you could make a ton of money selling all wheel drive kits too the us.

So anyone have any technical information any suggestions or insight?

Re: The big question AWD

The whole underside of the car is different, the rear shock towers are possibly different, and the NCP35 is only available as an automatic. Also the gas tanks are probably different and the exhaust system possibly.

If you really want to convert to AWD, my recommendation is to buy the complete drive train from an AWD Vibe/Matrix. You will want to make sure you get the rear disc brakes/emergency/brake/differential/axles/front axle shafts/front wheel hubs/brakes/mounts/suspensions. Then cut open your floor at the tunnel, and begin to mount that set up in your car. Then close your floor, could possibly cut the tunnel from the donor car. By converting the front and rear to this you also gain 4 wheel disc brakes, and 5x100 wheels. However if you are doing all this work you probably should just swap the 1.8 motor as well since it has more potential for NA power than most turbo set ups for the 1nzfe.

Re: The big question AWD

So the issue still sits as the trans is column shift automatic. Then as well as rear floor pan is different and rear suspension is different but could the trans bolt up to our motors?

Very good info over there but he seemed to drop the idea pretty quick I'm thinking about how it would be basically to get a donor ncp35 then take its rear floor pan cut out mine and weld it in place swap the suspensions rear axle and drive shaft then look at the issues of mating a all wheel drive trans that will work with our car and retain being a manual.

Re: The big question AWD

The shifter is not an issue because you would use the USDM column. You can not use the JDM RHD column in a LHD car because the column shifter is on the left side and not the right side. You would use the floor shifter. Also the NCP35 was available with the 1.5 so it would bolt up.

So the trans would bolt up its just swapping to a auto?? Or is there a way to still do a manual. This is sounding pretty good.

Re: The big question AWD

No you can not just take the NCP35 and use it with a manual. As far as this sounding good, I can make anything that actually fits in the car work for you, but it costs money. If you want a shop to do an AWD conversion for your car, contact Steve. It is not easy but I know it could happen and William can make it happen for the right amount of money. Steve and I could work with you and design the whole thing and William would do the work.

After this build is finished and the car hits shows for awhile then I'll consider doing it. Need to stack some more money and get a new daily then this will happen.

Re: The big question AWD

That was what I was hinting at, that it will take some savings to make it happen. If it was easy it would already have been done.

Oh I know it'll be an arm and a leg. But you have to pay to play. My xb hasn't been a cheap build believe me. I'm glad I got some sponsors along the way too help out. Yet if I could do it on my own obviously it'd be cheaper.

I am trying to figure out how to register the car so it is legal. For "strictly show" you shouldn't have any problems. I hear out firewalls are already stamped...

Yea the vin is on the firewall under the cowl from the factory. Getting rid of that is no sweat, as for the factory Vin tag in front of the dash though, idk.

The vin in front of the dash is simple. Remove the windshield, drill out the old rivets, put it on the new firewall and rivet it to the plate. I did this with a CRX I had a couple years ago.

Yea, I was referring to the legality aspect, not so much the labor part. I buy DA shells on the regular and when I make one car, I always use the cleanest title and dash lol...
