Rough, Low Idle issue...

I am having a bit of an issue with a rough/low idle that occurs on,y when the car is in gear (drive or reverse) - it occurs specifically when the brakes are applied - stopped at a light, drive through, etc - It has idled aroun 700RPM for a long time, but recenlty when stopped the cooling fans kick on and the brakes applied the idle will drop well below 500, the car vibrates until it picks back up.

It has died only once at a full stop.

its an 05 XB - auto tranny - at present it is not throwing any codes.

any help in diagnosing this?

the car is maintenced regularly - sparkys have about 5k on them - NGK Plat's.

Re: Rough, Low Idle issue...

May try cleaning the throttle body and Idle Speed Control with seafoam or wd-40.

Re: Rough, Low Idle issue...

Don't know why, i just copied them from an older post.
Here: http://scionlife.org/Scion_Docs/2004...y/conponen.pdf
The issue is likely with ISC Valve

If you pull off the rubber intake boot, you can spray a little wd-40 into the cavity on the bottom and let it soak. If the valve is sticking, it should clean it up.

Re: Rough, Low Idle issue...

Ok- hard to tell from the pics what you're describing...will I need to remove the TB itself to get to the ISC Valve or are you stating tyhat by removing the intake boot that I should be able to access the bottom cavity?

Re: Rough, Low Idle issue...

Yeah, just pull off the boot and you'll see the cavity at the bottom right before the butterfly plate.

Re: Rough, Low Idle issue...

thanks but figured it out turned out to be the clutch positioning switch that was trying to kill it.

Re: Rough, Low Idle issue...

I've tried looking for the clutch positioning switch for an automatic in the online manual however I am not able to find what you are referring to.

do you know of it by another name?

It's five speed, not an auto.

Re: Rough, Low Idle issue...

My idle drops very low, then comes back up, as well. It happens when I am stopped in gear and the A/C or defroster is cycling. I will try cleaning the ISC valve.

I also seem to have issues with a low (24-26) mpg. I am hoping the issues are related. I will post back when I fix it.

Re: Rough, Low Idle issue...

I've been to busy to try it. I have just been dealing with it. It has never died or anything, it's just annoying to think that it might.
