Zax Build Thread

So ive been lurking on the site for about a yr now and I decided that it was finally time for a build thread…… It would have been useless before because I really haven’t done to many mods until lately. I am going to “Boxed in the Smokies” in 11 days now so that was the motivation I needed to get on the ball.

Well you all know what a stock xb looks like….. that’s basically what I started with. I threw these rims on (they were from my civic):

massive wheel gap ftl, ima fix that problem soon.

the tail lights that were on the car were stock and the guy tried to paint them, without much success I might add, they looked horrible! So I got some led tails, and i debadged it:

So those were the only exterior mods that I have to show @ the moment.

I had a couple of projects for the inside. I bought an AVIC-D3 head unit, and i made some lil' spacers:

I like it but its got a lot of bugs!

Then I decided to put some gauges in, and I wanted something a lil’ different so I put them in the “oven” part of the console. Whoever had the b before me had hacked it up pretty bad so I had to work with what I had:

It was pretty simple to do, I have all of the picture for the steps that I took to make if anyone is interested…..

Then I painted my speedometer bezel. It had some paint on it already so I had to sand it down:

Yeah, shortbus_8 style…..

Then I painted my 1st layer of white:

Quick note: do not grab wet paint……

After that disappointment I had to sand and paint and sand and paint and sand and paint….. did I mention a had to sand and paint.
So I taped it off and put on my final coat:

It only took me 2 weeks to get it done….

I got some more in the works. Stay tuned.

I got new wheels (new to me anyway) but I am gonna powdercoat them. Heres a before pic:

The man in brown is supposed to bring me powder this week. *waiting patiently*

Re: Zax Build Thread

well i have went back and forth on colors for the wheels.... i wanted a color (something besides black and silver) so after weeks of deliberation, i think im gonna go green with white lips.

i have been doing some testing on two-tone powdercoating and it is tricky to say the least. but i think im gonna try and tackle it.

todd:
i got springs coming in the mail and echo shocks. so im hoping to get low.

and im workin on my rack right now. i just need a good set of crossbars. im scouring c-list jus bout everyday...

Re: Zax Build Thread

thanks everyone. i choose there beacause i hadnt seen that done before. but my originallity was shattered by EZ, he beat me to the punch on that one. his install is slick.

i used plexi to put the gauges in and i have some led's behind it, but they are not hooked up yet.

Re: Zax Build Thread

initially i was going to get D2's. but after i ordered them they called me and told me that they were out of stock..... he told me that if i wanted to wait they would send me some when they came in..... whiach was going to be 45 DAYS! but i really wanted those because of the 2" drop. but they offered to sub k-sports instead. the drop in the front is not as much, 1.6" i think, but it'll have to do.

well my next mod is in the early stages. i am making some ac knobs. tthis is the main piece and there are going to be inserts on the inside. its a 2 pc design.

these will get powdercoated when i do the wheels. this pc will be white, and the insert will be whatever color.... green, black, pink.... who knows right now. i dont have the inserts started yet.

thanks to xPartyx for the motivation!

Re: Zax Build Thread

graphite. unless it gets painted or coated it is no good though cuz it turns your hands black. its kinda like pencil lead. but it is super easy to machine and it is free to me and it is pretty strong too soooo....

Re: Zax Build Thread

Hmm, i'd never guessed you could powder coat Graphite. So do those slip over the OEM knobs? i was looking at making some aluminum ones, but the machining required to the backside would have made them cost too much.

very cool. I was thinking i'd have to have the female connection cut with a broach or EDM.
