We must get one!!! We've actually been talking abou something like that, or a tent trailer for when we want to go camping with the kids in the summer. I know it's not recommended to tow stuff ... but who cares when there's something as cool as that! :D

Hey he got 32.5 miles per gallon on his first fill up!!! NOT BAD!!

He didnt have too much in the trailer tho and he'll have to comment whenever her gets back. Not for awhile I believe but Im not sure if he had anything else with him and he used the hitch that was made for the xB .... just wanted to mention that. He said there didn't seem to be too much pull pressure or anything but IM NOT SURE! He seemed to really be loving it and when we cruised everyone was starring probably in amazement! LOL

I thought it was cool and made my husband happy until he looked under it and said NO after market muffler allowed!!! :p

I just got home from my 11 day trip and read through this thread.

Some comments:

Yes, I originally had the Teardrop built for towing with my MINI Cooper and towed it about 5,500 miles. When I had it built MINI-USA was not recommending that anything be towed so I had it built as light as I could. Latter MINI-USA did establish a tow rating of 1,430# and DA SHOO is about 675# loaded to travel.

This trip was 2,600 miles under tow - I added a few more miles unhitched. Total MPG for the entire trip was 32.5 at speeds of 55 to 60 using cruise control. Any long grade of 6% will require shifting into 4th and speed will drop to around 50 mpg. Grades of 8% may require a shift into 3rd if they are long and speed will drop to around 40. In all of the climbs that I did I never heated up and it was climbing and running great when I toped out at 9,910' in the Cedar Breaks Nat. Mon. I never exceeded 4,000 RPM in any gear at any time to the best of my knowledge. On a nice flat smooth pavement without cruise crontrol set I found that my speed would creep up to 70 mph with ease - however, it is much slower to accelerate.

Most Teardrops will weigh 900-1300# and I would NOT suggest that they be towed with an xB. The TAB is also above that weight.

The comments about paint are well taken and I will be repainting to match my xB, money is a restraint at the moment. I know the fenders will be repainted but the body will only have a different design on the sides and possibly the hatch - just don't know what that design is yet.

Thanks for posting the pictures from LV and for your kind words.:)

any links on the company that sells the trailer hitch kit?!?
Here are three, there are others:

http://www.etrailer.com

http://www.hitch-web.com

http://www.bageco.com

Or, you can go to any reputable trailer supply and they can also get the hitch, it is a Curt by Da Lan. Unless you are skilled in wiring I would recommend that you have that done by the trailer services shop, the hitch is a bolt up but unless you know what you are doing you can mess up the wiring.

Is this just a basic disclaimer for YOUR protection or are you speaking from your experience? After seeing that you can tow it (somewhat practically) I'm sure alot of Boxxers are interested...I am.

I'm not thinking of hookin one up and touring the country or anything but if it works for weekend camping trips and stuff I'll look into it more.

What is your honest opinion after pulling the trailer?

I thought I had written an honest OPINION.

What I wrote was based on my experience in towing DA SHOO for 2,600 miles with my xB. My recommendation is based on that experience, it is not a disclaimer nor to protect me (Scion does not recommend towing with an xB). If you tow irresponsibly and do damage to your xB Scion will not fix it, do I need protection from a law suit because of what I have said about my experience? I don't think so.

It is also my OPINION that weekend towing of a heavy trailer is not responsible, if you wouldn't tow it across country then I don't believe it should be towed.
