Scion xB with Trailer

Congradulations on a facinating and illuminating thread!!!

It prompted me to conduct my own Google Search to find suppliers of micro and mini camper trailers to pull behind my xB. The most useful site that I discovered was webBikeWorld [ http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcycle-trailer/ ] ... and jump down to "Motorcycle Tent Trailers" (teardrops too) to find the suppiers (with links to their sites).

The most interesting (to me) were... Trailmaster [ http://www.trailmasterinc.com/ ]... Lees-ure Lite Trailers [ http://www.tent-trailer.com/ ]... and Little Guy (Teardrops) [ http://www.golittleguy.com/ ].

Check 'em out and voice your opinions.

Funny I ran across this thread. Yesterday My wife and I saw an xB towing a u-haul trailer. I thought to myself.... I hope he's hauling Styrofoam because that wasn't a small trailer. I was amazed.

From my web research I would say that almost any motorcycle tent trailer would be a good match to the xB. The Little Guy is one of the very few commercial Teardrops that I would consider. My reasoning is ALL based on the weight of the trailers!

An absolute and perfect example of the reason why Toyota/Scion does not give a tow rating for the xB. Your "average" American has no common sense regarding towing.

No kidding.

I tow a 4 x 8 Harbor Freight trailer with my xB, just small stuff, a mower might be the biggest thing I haul with it. The only problem I have is the fuse on the parking lights blowing when I hook-up the trailer wires, but I think that's a short in the trailer wiring.

the only reason i'd have a trailer hitch on my xb is for one of those bbq pit hitches.

Scion xB with Trailer!!!

Digger added some useful points and prompted me to make a Google search on Harbor Freight Trailers and the various improvements and customizations made to these cheap, versatile, light weight, little trailers. It turns out that if you are the least bit handy, these little trailers could be become the major problem-solvers for ALL Scion owners seeking solutions for those occasional hauling needs that exceed the Scion's interior capacity.

Harbor Freight Trailers come in several flavors:

1) The model that comes closest to becoming the "Universal Scion Problem-Solving Trailer" is the 860 lb. capacity 40" x 49" Mini Utility Trailer with 8" wheels and tires weighing in at 130 lb. and selling for only $140. [ http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=42708 ] or [ http://tinyurl.com/9kvhl ]. This model has adopted (and adapted) by several cruising motorcyclists needing to haul more than can be packed on a bike and I have included links to a couple of sites showing off these "Biker Trailers" that could just as well be towed by any Scion.

2) The 990 lb. Capacity Foldable 48" x 96" Utility Trailer with 8" wheels and tires weighing in at 221 lb. and selling for $200 [ http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=42709 ] or [ http://tinyurl.com/fq9k ].

3) The 1175 lb. Capacity 48" by 96" Foldable Utility Trailer with 12" wheels and tires weighing in at 228 lb. and selling for $230. [ http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=90154 ] or [ http://tinyurl.com/3xpny ].

3) To view their entire Harbor Freight Trailer line-up, go to [ http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...aul%2DMasterup ] or [ http://tinyurl.com/h73r9 ] and scan down the page.

To give you some idea of just what can be done with these trailers, check out links to these sites:

1) Harbor Freight Trailer used to haul auto racing gear [ http://www.kallistimotorsports.com/trailer.htm ] or [ http://tinyurl.com/n2le3 ].

2) Harbor Freight Trailer with a Sears cartop carrier for a motorcycle [ http://www.herberts.org/wayne/valk/trailer.htm ] or [ http://tinyurl.com/f7w6y ].

3) Harbor Freight Trailer (with another Sears cartop carrier) U-can pull with your bike (or small car) [ http://www.gadgetjq.com/trailer.htm ] or [ http://tinyurl.com/pbss3 ].

4) The Zepher Teardrop Camper Trailer (built on a Harbor Freight Trailer) with a LOT of project tips, advice and links provided [ http://www.nfdc.net/home/cbdb/Teardrop.htm ] or [ http://tinyurl.com/9ow5n ].

5) The "Other" Harbor Freight Trailers (adapted for use as small boat trailers) [ http://www.shortypen.com/essays/trailers/ ] or [ http://tinyurl.com/rwcl3 ].

BTW - A slightly heavier, stonger (and more costly) trailer is also offered by RedTrailers.com [ http://www.redtrailers.com/Trailers.asp ] or [ http://tinyurl.com/mhou2 ]. While all of the projects and adaptations that can be done on the Harbor Freight Trailers can also be done on the RedTrailer units. The choice of which is better to pull behind your Scion really depends on the load to be carried and the frequency of anticipated use.
