| Re: How to Turn off Tire pressure monitor? Just have the shop be careful with the sensors. They broke one of mine and the light went on a few hours after I had the new rims installed. It cost me $112 for the new sensor and $150 to have it programmed at the dealer. The tire place paid for the sensor but refused to pay the programming fee. |

Might as well throw them under the bus so no one else gets screwed by their incompetence. |

| Re: How to Turn off Tire pressure monitor? if they broke em' then they should have to pay for it.... we occasionally have people break them at work, especially with low profile tires... and we have to pay for them, its illegal for them to make you pay... if there is a goodyear store in your area i highly recommend it... (it looks like theres one close
Store Address: Distance:
GOODYEAR AUTO SERVICE CTR #4765
11479 PERRIN BEITEL RD
SAN ANTONIO, TX 78217
(210)656-3111
Fax: (210)656-3113)
not just because i work there, but they do good work at a usually competitive price
FYI I've never broke one... and that pricing is insane... especially that programing charge...

| Re: How to Turn off Tire pressure monitor? not that i can remember, but they should be pretty easy to do, same basic deal as the xb... most cars use the same TPMS set ups as the xb has, just varying in size and shape, there are some cars that use more complicated systems, GMs in particular are a pain because they have to be reset every time you get new tires. If you have any questions about a particular vehicle just stop by/ call your local tire place (preferably goodyear ) and they can look it up real quick, they got all that stuff in the computer... |

| Re: How to Turn off Tire pressure monitor? I had one of my TPMS in my hand the otherday.. Its really quite small.
I had a nail go thru a tire, and cause a leak, and the dealership didn't want to patch it. Inside the tire was a bunch of rubber balls, not sure what that was about, and of course a puncture wound.
They also indicated I had a bent wheel, besides a flat tire. the replacement charge for the factory tire is $125. I didn't bother getting the price of a wheel.
They also charged a $20 diagnostic fee. |

| Re: How to Turn off Tire pressure monitor? Very helpful Kev_xB!!! I'm getting new rims this week and my tire guy just warned me about this issue and that depending on the rim choice, they might run into a problem with the TPM's. (Hoping that's not the case). If it's that simple then just swapping them sounds good. He warned me that another guy simply removed the TPM's and his car wouldn't go over 50mph since the 'puter thought he had low tire pressure...Ha! Hope the xB isn;t that sophisticated..... |

I think the sensor is sick of looking for the input. And I have a habit of tossing my gloved on the dash just where the indicator light it. Of course, I'm also blind as a bat. lol Ron |

| Re: How to Turn off Tire pressure monitor? I need my light off also, I just had my new wheels installed and the sensors leaked and wouldn't tighten up enough to stop the leak. So I had them put regular stems in, Light doesn't bother me but I'd like to disable it if possible. |

| Re: How to Turn off Tire pressure monitor? ok, the lil rubber balls inside that flat tire...when you got the flat your tire was damaged internally and rubber started to fall off inside the tire, many different things can contribute to it, the rubber then turns into lil balls from the heat generated by running on the tire while its flat, the lil shavings ball up, because of the location of the puncture its not repairable anyway, too close to the sidewall, but because theres structural damage inside its unsafe to repair too.
fyi not all rims are compatible with tpms sensors...because of the way the rim is made, most dealers will tell you if the rims your looking at are, i know tire rack will. and its federally mandated that every new car from 2008 on has to have tmps sensors of some sort |

| Re: How to Turn off Tire pressure monitor? As of 9/07 all cars must have some type of TPMS. It's part of the TREAD Act. They've been phasing them in for the past few years. I think it's a great idea, because people rarely think about their tires unless it's raining/snowing or they see one flat. How many people REALLY check their tire pressure every month like they're supposed to? TPMS wouldn't be necessary if people properly maintained their tires.
Padanky...you can buy new seals for the sensors. And overtightening them can damage the seals. You'd be suprised just how little they need to be tightened. Most are around 30-40 in-lbs.
And about the rubber balls in the tire...it's because the tire was driven underinflated causing excessive heat build up. The inner liner starts to shred.
I also work at tire shop, and a Toyota dealer.

Again...you can't always look at a tire and tell that it's 5 lbs low. Be realistic...how many people really do a walk-around every time they get in their car anyway? 1 out of 1000? Not to mention you can't see that nail you picked up in your tire when you're on that long distance trip. TPMS is a great way to keep everyone safe. I wouldn't want you driving next to me on the interstate with a low tire, about to blow out, just to have you wreck and possibly kill yourself or anyone around you. It happens all the time because too many people properly maintain their tires.
Making it an option wouldn't work anyway. How many people would really chose to have TPMS on their cars? Probably not the people who really need them. Do you think seat belts and airbags should be optional? It's no different. |

| Re: How to Turn off Tire pressure monitor? well if you bring your car in for regular maintenance, your tires should be getting checked on a regular basis, and if your losing air from a nail or some other debris your gonna notice that eventually too... and alot more than 1 out of 1000 check their cars every day, i think anyone whose ever owned an older car is used to this. even before i worked at a garage i checked my car everyday before i went anywhere... most people are just to lazy to maintain their vehicles on their own... honestly it takes an extra 5 seconds to visually look at ur tires... thats if your not already walking to the other side to get in... tpms sensors, while they can be convenient are not on the same level as seat belts and air bags... |
