Re: cleaning wheels?

I dont think windex is bad, I have used it before. Wait for more responces, as I dont know if windex can cause problems. I reccomend just using carwash soap and water. dry them good and your set.

What finish are you working with? Chrome? paint?

simple green...works quite well...and it's biodegradeable. not that i work for green peace or anything...

spray and leave on for about five minutes and use a soft brush and start cleaning the wheel and hose off....voila you are done! also, with simple green, it dries really nicely too

WOAH! Hope you're dilluting it! Simple Green will etch and discolor unfinished and polished aluminum. If you must use Simple Green, use their Heavy Duty formula, it's purple. Dillute it 1 cup to 1 gallon of water, spray, let dwell 3-5 minutes, brush and rinse. If you are looking for a high quality wheel cleaner that's safe for pratically all wheels, you can't go wrong with P21S wheel gel. I use this on $300,000 Lambos, $100,000 Mercedes and other high-end whips. I am a professional auto detailer.

Re: cleaning wheels?

I have seen many people use Simple Green full strength to clean wheels, underhood, and even beleive it or not an RV. It causes all sorts of problems at full strength. I was just trying to be helpful and help people avoid ruining their wheels.

Re: cleaning wheels?

meguires soap works well too i've tried. but have to let it soak and don't wash the wheels when they have been just driven on...let the wheels cool down before you start.

Re: cleaning wheels?

This is the method i use to detail 3pc wheels or any other wheels. Also works on chrome. I've detailed tons of wheels btw.. I know it's a long explanation but when you do it it's not that hard. I also assume you're cleaning the break dust of the back of the wheels. If not you can skip some steps.

What you need:

1. 2-3 SOFT brushes from medium to large size from home depot.
3. 3m rubbing compounds or scratch X
4. Palmolive with grease cutting action
5. ShamWow lmao... or something similar or extra towels
6. two small buckets

None of these products will scratch or damage your wheels. Stay away from any products with acids or harsh chemicals.

Since most wheels are clear coated the 3m rubbing compound makes them look extra nice.

Now the steps...

1. Get a bucket of warm water and a bucket of cold water
2. Put soap in the bucket of warm water
3. Wash your wheels down with a towel and rinse the towel ONLY in the cold water.
4. Put some soap on the brush and get to work cleaning the wheels
5. Once most of the dirt is off rinse the wheels
6. Get another brush and put some rubbing compound on it
7. Use the brush to work out any baked on break dust
8. Apply some rubbing compound on a clean rag not the wheel and go over the wheels
9. the end... your wheels should look like new...

Since I can't edit I mean brake not break...lmao
