Rear door speaker question

Have any of you had your rear doors apart?

I'm in the planning stages of my stereo in my xB2 and am wondering if an 8" speaker would fit in there, I've read that others have upsized to 6.5's in there so was hoping it might be possible to even go larger than that.

Re: Rear door speaker question

With some modification you might be able to get it to fit. But you may not be able to roll the window down all of the way then.

Re: Rear door speaker question

The pic in my avatar was my first xB...2004 model, got in a wreck an was totalled a few months back so now I've got an 09'.

Yeah I'm hoping I can fit 8's back there without the window hitting, I'd rather have them back there than in the front doors, still there aren't any definitive answers yet so I may be the first to try.

The 8's would be hard to get back there. Just for the over all depth and then room for the window. I might look at it also. Just have not had time yet to test the 8's back there.

Re: Rear door speaker question

I just installed my 5.25s in the back doors. With the windowns all they way down the dont reach the cutout for the speaker. I bet an 8 inch would fit if it didnt have a huge magnet. You can use up to a 3/4 inch spacer.

Man thanks, I been sweatin' this so that's great to hear ......about how much depth do I have in there, from the mounting hole to the door skin(no spacer)? The speakers I wanna use are 3.5 inches in depth and the magnet is a small diameter since it has a neo motor.

Re: Rear door speaker question

Remove the cover behind the door handle and remove the screw. There are 2 screws in total. After the screws are out, its fairly easy to just pull the door panel off, but you will benefit from using a prybar of somesort to pop the pins. When the door panel is off, take the plugs out of the power door locks/windows and the panel is now completely removed. Before putting the panel back on, make sure you pull any door pins out of the door and put them in the correct spot on the panel. I found it to be pretty easy..
