Going Deaf

I keep reading things like, "if you want to go deaf, go ahead and get 2 15s.."

Do any of you know anyone who is deaf from bumping their stereo too loud?

I know my stereo mashes, and never hurts my ears but the bobcat breaker does - or the concrete saw or shooting my gun without ear protection. I LOVE to bump full volume, if it could get louder, Id turn it up... I would say I have great hearing, I can hear mice chewing at the walls when my wife doesnt hear it. I am the first to hear the baby cry through the walls over the loud TV.

Please someone tell me Ill be ok, or tell me a story of someone loosing hearing from listening to songs too loud. Or tell me that technology wont let me go deaf because hearing aids are becoming tiny and more efficient? lol Im reaching...

-Frank

I can still hear a mouse pissing on cotton, however if you listen to your music too loudly then eventually you will suffer some hearing loss. Listening to bass tones loudly won't cause any hearing loss since our hearing mechanism is less sensitive at those frequencies.....ever notice how higher sounds can cause a ringing in your ears yet bass tones won't? Avoid the ringing.

Re: Going Deaf

Bass can cause just as much damage that high frequencies. I don't mean to be the bearer of bad news lol. Do a little research on it and you will find that through the whole spectrum different frequencies cause hearing loss in different ranges of our hearing.

I agree, bass can cause hearing loss as well.

Re: Going Deaf

Ya, I have noticed a little ringing after bumping or during bass drops. Im sure its from bass and not the treble. Like I said earlier, Im not a fat of loud treble.

Re: Going Deaf

The company I work for requires me to have a hearing test each year. My daily drive before I got my box had 4-15's walled off with 1500 on each. It was tuned at 32hZ and at 32hZ I could do a 151.5 on the dash. I would beat it all the time. With my hearing test it showed that I had no hearing loss. However I have noticed a difference myself. Like someone said it is the long term effect you should be worried about. And Low Freq can cause hearing loss just in a different aspect. Anything loud causes hearing loss you can play 20 hZ at 160db nd you will go deaf one day. I bet if you get in Alan Dante's volvo you would go deaf sooner. (180.5db)
