| Re: Amp rack pictures n stuff like that OK, external dimensions are 23 length x 15.5 high x 12 deep ( I added + 3 to the bottom of the deapth, and -3 to the top so its 9 inches on top and 15 on bottom, works to an average of 12.). Should be just about 1.8 cubic feet inside. The port right now takes .2 cubic feet, and the woofer takes .194 ft^3 so its close to 1.4 cubic feet. (specs call for 1.3 cubic feet).
If I add a couple more inches to the port, net internal volume will change too.
Heres the alpine sheet I used to get my dimensions, I did change the external dimensions too, but I kept the volume very close to the same. http://support.alpine-usa.com/produc..._SWX-1243D.PDF
The vent on that sheet calls to be 12" x 1" x 24" long. I went 6x2 inches, hoping to keep the air noise to a minimum. I thought it was supposed to be 22 inches long, but I was reading from the 10" woofer specs oops. I suppose Ill add a couple more inches of port before I slap the face on there, itll bring the net internal volume down to maybe where it should be. But again, this is my first ported box and I have no idea how that effects things.
Hey, thanks for your help!

| Re: Amp rack pictures n stuff like that longer port=lower tuning frequency. depending on what kinds of music you listen to, you generally want to tune the box to about 33hz
when people go higer than that, their goal is usually for high SPL
you dont want to tune your box too high cause then your low end will sound like crap, and vice versa |

| Re: Amp rack pictures n stuff like that Ok, well I went ahead and added the rest of the port. The 6" x 2" port is now 24 inches long and net internal airspace is 1.3 cubic feet. Its drying now and waiting to be sanded. Once I get some money, Ill buy some paint and paint this badboy black. I hope it sounds good! I cant wait to hear it. Once I hear it and like it, I will have my old box to get rid of. It is pictured on page 1 a couple times. It has .8 cubic feet internal airspace. Anyone in San Diego want it? pm me.

Check out that link, I have been painting my boxes for years. I cant seem to master the whole carpeting thing. Its all in the primer!
I guess my account over at yarisworld has been hacked, and all my posts are gone. Oh well, heres the pics I wanted you to see.
See? Its all in the sanding, primer and spackle!

I dont have the finished pictures of that one painted black, but its very smooth!

| Re: Amp rack pictures n stuff like that Back to my new box... I added to the port now total its 24 inches - I measured the shortest path the air can take.
I made the face double layered for strength and for the woofer can be countersunk..
I know, ugly but wait till tomorows pics.. |

| Re: Amp rack pictures n stuff like that it does get a bit warm down there, and I did consider putting a fan under each amp. My mono amp gets hotter than the 4 channel, and usually around 150F when I get home from a long loud drive. And the fans on the mono amp dont turn on, I wonder what temp it has to reach for the fans to turn on???
oh, and I bumped the new ported box today. It definately booms more. I gotta turn it up and tune the amp right, I think I gotta lower the frequency, but didnt get a chance today. I had it bumping today and got out the car, and noticed the whole roof bouncing! lol!

I definately need a lesson in audio tuning!

| Re: Amp rack pictures n stuff like that Right. I will play around with it really soon, a bit early still for a sunday to make some noise. In my truck, with the same amp, 2x10" woofers, I had the crossover set at about 70hz. When I put the amp in my xB, with the new 12" woofer and small sealed box, it sounded better up around 170hz even up to 200hz. With this box, same woofer it sounds like the woofer is getting too much mid bass, and I want to turn the crossover down a lot.
Texicali, we gotta meet! You seem to be the only one interested in my thread lol.. Do you ever go to meets? I havnt yet but still waiting for a close one to crash. |

| Re: Amp rack pictures n stuff like that I have bumped it really hard for a half hour ride and checked the temp on the sub amp as soon as I got home, with it still running. The amp read 155F. Im not sure if thats too hot, but the amp does have cooling fans. I suppose they are heat sensitive because I have never seen them on. Maybe they dont work, I cant recall ever seeing them on and Ive used this amp to power 2 10" 500w jl w3v3's for a year in my truck before I got the xb.
.... to answer your question, I dont think there is a heat issue. |
