| 12's ported vs 15's sealed alright guys, ive asked this on a couple other forums and have gotten mixed responses.
the subs are DC Sound Lab lvl 3's
specs here DC Audio - Specifications
1200rms with the two
both setups should cost about the same due to the cost of the ported box.
goals: to get loud and low. i listen to rap mostly, so i would probably tune the 12's to ~32hz, but it would be nice to be able to hit the mid 20's on songs like "Put On"
12's will be in an ideal ported box 4 cubes with either aeroports or a kerf flare slot. this box will be designed (and maybe built) by Fisher Customs
vs
15's in just a simple sealed setup, 6 cubes
which would be louder? sound generally better? fit my goals best?
persuade me!
i will be ordering in about a week unless other complications arise
....and i just looked again, a single 18 ported may be a possibility as well....

| Re: 12's ported vs 15's sealed in my opinion, a sealed box will be tighter and faster response. yeah, do a sealed 15...and push lots of power!! |

| Re: 12's ported vs 15's sealed 2 15's actually.
im kinda leaning towards that. i'll get better low end response, it would be cheaper and easier to build, and it would still be pretty damn loud
a buddy of mine has 2 12" type r's sealed up in a 4runner and its plenty loud...so 2 15's would probably suit me just fine
and if i really wanted to, i could probably squeeze a ported box into the back |

| Re: 12's ported vs 15's sealed Just my 2 cents here... But a sealed box will give you tighter controlled bass. You said you listen to rap and want to get in to the mid 20Hz range... Then a properly tuned and ported box will be the way to go. I have a Rockford Power Series 500 (762 Actual) watt mono pushing 2 12" Rockford Punch Stage 3 subs @ 1 ohm and it's ridiculous. |

| Re: 12's ported vs 15's sealed well, ive decided to go with the 15's
i should be placing my order early next week and then hopefully get the subs the week after that, so be expecting some pics
and i also underestimated the space we have in the back of our cars so i should have the room to port the 15's, tho i will probably go sealed for a little while anyway |
