Steering wheel controls in aftermarker HU

Hi All,

I went to test drive my scion today.Put the down payment on a 09 blackberry crush.

I have an avic D3 that i will be pulling out of my old car and into the scion. I understand i need the brackets to fill the gaps and the wiring kit.

Is there anyway to use the stock controls on the steering wheel (mode, volume, tuner) with the avic D3? what kind of mod do i need?

Also, the car i test drove, the volume switch and tuner switch did not light up. Only the Mode button was lit with the orange. Is that supposed to be like this? For some reason, i was under the impression that these buttons would be illuminated. Please let me know!

Thank you for your help!!

Re: Steering wheel controls in aftermarker HU

The AVIC D3 has an add-on module that will allow your steering wheel controls to work. It's worth it, but the device doesn't perform well. You had to push and hold the controls for about a second longer than you normally would or it won't register the command. It is really annoying sometimes, but at least it is functional. Who knows, maybe my installer jacked it up. He installed my sat radio antenna under the dash, so I get signal drop outs all the time. So I don't have a high opinion of the work he performed.

If you get the same module and it works as fluid as the stock setup does, please let me know. Thanks.

Sorry, I'm stuck at work, don't have the model number for it. Doubt I have the box either. I'm pretty sure there is only one module that Pioneer offers for the AVIC-D3/Scion setup.

I'd like to know if anyone else has a lackluster opinion of this module, too.
