Ipod cable--Toyota update?

Some of you might know about the Ipod cord in your XB: if you have one of the latest generation ipods, the cord won't work. It plays sounds, and you can control, it with the radio buttons, but it doesn't charge. Apple changed the newest ipods so they charge on different pins than the earlier ones

I was really mad when I found this out, because my old ipod died and I bought a new one just after I got my XB, only to find that Apple made a change in the newest ipods so they don't charge on older docks/ports. Thanks!

I bought an adaptor which was supposed to enable charging but it doesn't work. Maybe it's defective, but I'm betting no. Does anyone know if Toyora is planning a new cable? The ipod function was one of the reasons I liked the Scion in the first place

I don't think that it is just the cord. They would probably have to replace the physical jack from the stereo to the center console and the cord. Something that the 2010 model might have at which point you could buy and swap the parts. I doubt apple told toyota they were making the switch.

Re: Ipod cable--Toyota update?

It is multiple things. The 4th gen nano uses a USB connection to charge it (+5v dc)and to communicate with it. The previous ipod's used a fire wire connection (+12v dc). So the pinout was changed for the technology difference and so you would not fry your ipod with 12v when it requires 5v. Suposidly Scion is working on this but how hard is it to put an in line voltage regulator in a cable to produce +5v from +12v and have it go to the right pin on the ipod. The existing car cable is fine for Ipod control and playing. So simply modify it and either give them to new Scion owners or make them available at a real cheap price. Or there is the posability of a class action suite against apple and Scion.

Does this problem effect all Ipods or only the Nano? Are there any newer Ipods that will work with the Scion hookup?

Re: Ipod cable--Toyota update?

this issue only effects the nano, ipod touches and iphones. I have a brand new 120gb ipod classic that charges fine

Re: Ipod cable--Toyota update?

I realize that the the Scosche Passport adaptor works. But funny thing, I bought a car that was supposed to work 100% with an Ipod. If my power windows quit opening should I buy an after market device to fix the problem or should Scion fix it. I feel that this is a warranty issue and that Scion should do the right thing and resolve it. If Scion has to buy the devices from Scosche and send them to all Scion owners who request them then sue Apple to pay for it then so be it. This is their problem and not the consumers problem.
